i'm currently looking at going down the lcd projector route as an upgrade from my 28" tv, and with my budget of around £1000, i was looking at these as a possible screen. so i can spend as much as possible on cabling and the pj.
(item 3 on the page)
dry wipe boards (http://www.design-shop.co.uk/notice-boards.htm)
maybe painting it! any one tried or has one.
the pj i was thinking of is the panny 200.
any advice/help appreciated.
cheers

You'd definitely have to paint it - I speak from experience of using OHP projectors and getting awful glare. They are quite reflective surfaces.
I expect Dulux Icestorm would do the trick if you prime the screen first or sand it a little to key it.

Hi
I found the glare to be a problem on vinyl clad foam sheeting such as is used by the plastic window people for blanking panels. I got a friend who repairs cars to use his DA sander on it with very fine grit and getting a nice even finish all over. The picture is now great

White Painted Hardboard.
Dirt cheap.
Has a VERY VERY slight shine on it (I guess it's got some gain as they say in PJ speak)
VERY white (which may or may not be a good thing)
Just buy a small bit from the diy store 3 x 5 foot will only be about a fiver, and see what you think.

Follow up note:
I have now since tried a full size sheet of hardboard and you have to do something about the shine on the surface.
I have painted it with Dulux Ice Storm 6 which killed the annoying reflection dead and improved the black quite a bit.
Has brought down the white though.
I don't think there's any way you can have best of both worlds.

A grey screen with gain may work well, and both Da-lite and Stewart sell them, but they can be quite expensive. I would think a matt white screen should do the trick though.
You could always make a wooden frame and stretch/staple blackout cloth to it. The wood shouldn't cost more than £10, and the material around £15 to £20.
BO cloth comes in various colours (mostly creams and whites), and I used the white stuff for mine. It's a white clothe one side, and slightly off-white vinyl the other. You can use either side, but I folded it so that I could project onto both sides at once, and compare the two sides. I prefered the cloth side personaly. Once made, it can be hung on the wall like a picture - there are some pics on my website if you're interested.
Due to upgrading to a lower lumen pj, I've since changed the cloth to some 1.2 gain material from www.ellie.co.uk, and that has brought the brightness back up. There's no hotspotting either. DRH screens also do screen material if you decide to spend a bit more, but I don't think that the pukka material is a huge improvement over the BO cloth if you're after a unity gain screen.

I used at the beginning standard matte white paint from an local store...Upgraded with screen paint from Goosystems, and the result was the best upgrade in my HT ever...
The Goo can be delivered as digital-Grey and more standard CRT-White.
Painted my screen (Drywall 230cmx 126cm ~ 16:9) with 2 layers screengoo base-coat and then 2 layers of top-coat, the result was amazing!
Tha paint is based on latex, and need up to 6 weeks before finished drying period. Here is som screenshots I took first of the old screen paint, and last to the new Goo screen after 4 weeks drying:
From my old $8 standard white, to the first week with goo here. (http://www.hulten.no/goomaling.htm)
Screenshoots taken after 4 weeks drying period here. (http://www.hulten.no/goomaling2.htm)
