Hi,
Looking at getting on of these players maybe s/hand but i was wondering if i got the standard machine and then upgraded the board, where in relation to the + version would that bring the player would it then be an + version, or would it be better than a +, i belive the upgrades are £350-400 done at the factory or can they be done by the arcam stockists?
Was going to e-mail arcam thought i'd check here first, i may get a quicker reponse.
thanks

Hi Jim,
I believe that if you send it back to Arcam for the upgrade it will be equal to the DV89 which is one step ahead of the DV88+. Arcam tech support can easilly confirm this.

I had mine done from DV88 to + (£400) for it to go dv88 to DV89 its (£650), from dv88+ to dv89 (£350)
Dv88+ basically ups the machine from Vaddis 3 to Vaddis 5 and adds prog scan PAL/NTSC.. and the DV89 has all that plus the extra board for DVDA

Do you feel it is it worth upgrading a DV88P model to DV88Plus ? The DV88P has the SI503 progressive scan board fitted which does both NTSC and PAL progressive scan. Is the progressive scan board on the plus model better and apart from this does it offer any other improvements such as on DD / DTS sound ?
I am not hugely interested in DVDA so do not really need to move to DV89 spec.

No.. I believe the sil board is better than the on chip vaddis 5 prog scan solution.. Can't really comment on the sound.. it was a long time ago (and I never a-b'ed the dv88 and plus side by side )..if you have it done you might as well go the whole hog :)

Thanks mate. I'll keep it as it is then. Just picked it up at the weekend and am very happy with it.

I've got a basic DV88 and I'm wondering for how long it will remain upgradeable?
I'll want PAL prog output at some point but I'd hate to be the last person to get around to it and be told "oh sorry mate they don't make those any more"!
