JVC HDTV in UK

I'm not sure what people already know about the JVC TV rnage, but as they do the D-Theater HD-DVHS decks they also do a pair of CRT TV's that will accept a 1080i/1125i component input.

That and they don't cost much. About £1,500 and £1k respectively and less if you look around.

I wonder if these display ture HD, or whether the image is re-scaled to standard definition.

They display native 1080i and upscale other low-res sources to that resolution also.

I highly doubt that it upscales SD to 1080i. Nowhere does it say that. It only says that it scales to remove flicker which is basically 100Hz TV.

Does this DEFINITELY mean that they can receive 1080i/1125i signals. Colour me confused!

The DIST is their upscaling software for the TV's that converts all sources upto 1080i.

Would there be any point in scaling to normal sources to 1080i and then back to 576i? Not really.

I'm thinking about asking for a loan model for work, to give a spin with our resident JVC D-Theater SR-VD400E deck.

The DIST is to make the TV 100Hz with 576i/50Hz signals. This TV is not even progressive scan. It does not scale to 1080i. It clearly says that. All it does is accept 1080i signal on its component input. If it really scaled to 1080i it would cost more than £1,500. There isn't even HDTV's that cheap in US that scale to 1080i.
Besides, it is not even HDTV that means that it will not resolve most of 1080i resolution anyway. Just because the TV can accept 1080i signal it does not make it High Definition. We had the same situation in US in the beginning. Manufacturers were selling TV sets as HD even though the only thing they had common with real HDTV was that it accepted 1080i signal. If you want real HD, get HD Plasma. I believe you can get one from Panasonic in UK.

There's plenty on the page I've linked to.

It's runs at a refresh of 75hz rather than 50 or 100hz and at 33Khz over 15Khz horizontal refresh.

Having written that I think the PAL sources are actually done to 1250i/1152i @ 75Hz. So 1080i is within that spec.
