I am in US and I saw people wondering if they can use JVC 30k or 40k to archive Euro1080 and besides I am interested too. I have both machines plus Mistsubishi 2k. Can somebody provide me with a capture which is about 2-3 minutes long. I will test it and post the results here. If anyone wants to do it just send me PM and I will give you info for upload to FTP.

Hi,

You can DL an HDTV TS stream from Euro1080 from
http://dvbportal.dyn1.de/files/Euro1080%20-%20Promo.zip

No Go to record the file to the Mitsubishi HS-HD1100U D-VHS Recorder using the DVHSTools or the Dvico's Fusion SW.

OK,

I've just downloaded the clip and sent it via firewire from DVHStool on the PC to the JVC 30K. The file plays, but it seems to play maybe 10 frames then pauses, 10 frames then pauses and so on. The sound is intermittent to. So it seems the 30K isn't compatible with 1080i50. Or maybe its a problem with DVHStool, although I can't see it as it just passes the digital data unmolested through the firewire port.

And I thought 1080i50 was part of the ATSC spec...

It is part of the ATSC spec - but I don't believe it's compulsory for receiving/recording gear to meet that part.

http://www.atsc.org/standards/a_63.pdf is the relevant document for 25/50 Hz

So Chris,

If we fed the JVC 30K via firewire through an external ATSC digibox like the Samsung I forget the number (which also has DVI out!), this would probably be able to decode the 50Hz signal, as well as the tapes playing through the 30K.

I wonder if the 40K is different?

I did not post my findings earlier as I am waiting for another capture from Euro1080. The file plays fine thru either 30k or 40k but when it is recorded it is all pixelated. This capture has 25Mbps data rate for video and I think it is too much for demuxer inside the HD DVHS machines. Even though they state 28Mbps for HD DVHS but that is for total data rate. For example DTheater tapes have video running at 23Mbps max. I need another ts capture when Euro1080 is running video at 18.5Mbps. Only then we will know for sure. BTW, I get the same results when I play it thru the Samsung box.

CKNA, did you download the same clip as me and it played fine? How come it didn't on mine?

You downloaded the one from the link in this thread?

Chris,

do you have any captures that I can download?

mattmarsden,

Yes it is the same clip. It plays fine only if you use 30k or 40k as Mpeg decoder. It does not play properly when recorded to tape.

CKNA, I tried it again with DVHStool to the 30K, and I still get the stops in the programme even when just using the 30K as the decoder. I wonder if the version of DVHStool I'm using is struggling with the bitrate.

Did you find any other TS files anywhere?

No I have not found any other captures. I am waiting on Rittberg to get me new one. Maybe Chris Muriel could help us out?.
BTW, I use Japanese program CapDVHS. You can download English Version here http://member.nifty.ne.jp/kishio/softbody.html but you still need DVHSTool drivers. I will try DVHSTool today.

I have a capture of the whole transport stream taken during IBC. This also includes some WM9 streams.
It's about 4 minutes and fills a CD (it's 699 Megabytes).
I don't have a website so I can't post it anywhere.
I am off to Munich for the rest of this week (early morning flight) so there isn't much I can do right now.
I sent a copy of the CD to John Adcock on these forums.
Maybe he'll surface and help.

Thanks to Crypto from DVB Portal Forum (http://dvbportal.dyn.ee/forum/index.php ) for the new Euro1080 "ts" stream with reduced data rate (19MBit/s). DL the new file from here (http://dvbportal.dyn1.de/files/Euro1080%20-%20New%20Sample.zip )

BTW - take a look to the beautiful stills (http://dvbportal.dyn.ee/forum/index.php?board=7;action=display;threadid=97)

Good luck,

Rittberg

This new capture is no good. There is no MPEG2 video in it at all, just some pids. I analyzed it with TSReader.

CKNA,

I've installed the latest version of DVHStool, and I can now play pack the ts file, but it is definitely playing through the 30K at 60Hz, you can se that it is a bit jerky, and my projector reports it as being 60hz. Also, do you get any sound playback?

If this means you know a little bit about the HS-HD1100U, do you think you could help me out with a compatability problem? I need to hook the D-VHS to my computer, but it doesn't have the right drivers or codec. Do you have these or know where I can get them?
