I know that the Temple of Doom has been cut on the UK R2 version, but does this apply to those being sold in France, Germany and the rest of Europe. I dont really want to get the R1 version, always preferred PAL.

Buy a R4 PAL version.

I asked the same question, and someone told me that the French/German versions are uncut. But of course the packaging will be in a foreign language.

Personally I wouldn't mind getting one with foreign packaging, as long as the movie is uncut and I avoid paying customs charges.

What about importing it from Ireland?

I would have that the Ireland release would be the same as the UK release but could be wrong, I have been trying to find somewhere that can sell me a PAL Uncut set but no luck so far.

Irish releases are 99% of the time the same as the uK's just with an Irish film censors sticker stuck over the UK certificate, the Aussie version is uncut, and Pal, as is the R2 French German etc, etc. Damm the BBFC, Damm Them all to hell:)

You're probably right, checked www.cdwow.ie and there is a choice of "Region 2" or "Region 1 (uncut)".

Sod it, I'm going to order from Germany...

Skoka,

its not the BBFC that cuts films - its the film companies. The BBFC would have given doom a 15 but the film company didn't ask for one - they wanted to keep it as a PG. So contact Paramount and ask them.

The heart ripping scene looks better in the cut version I think.

i never really liked "doom" i always thought it was just a bit too dark. it seems quite out of place when comparered with "ark" and "Crusade". so i wasnt that bothered about the getting the R1. Indeed i've watched 1 and 3 twice but 2 i havent got over the half way mark before turning it off.

Region 4 would proably the best way to go for pal without cuts. That's what I'm thinking of doing.

I know that, just expressing mu hate for the BBFC, PG in Oz as well by the way BBFC are just oversensitive, headbutts for example, are a bigg no no in there eyes.

I have the same question, where can you purchase a Region 4 version from without having to import it from Australia, would take a French or German release but the packaging isnt in english so its either Region 4 or I have to go buy the cut Region 2 set.

I love my R2 version, great picture and sound, good packageing and missing the cheap special effects. Anyway I thought everyone hated doom?

Just thought I'd bump this topic by saying that my box set arrived from Germany yesterday - approx. £37 inc. shipping from amazon.de.

Yes the packaging is in German, so those of you want English packaging would be better off searching for somewhere to import the Australian set.

Had a quick look at Doom before my wife took it away to wrap up (it's supposed to be my Christmas present ;) ) - it appears to be uncut (certainly the heart extraction/wound closing bit is in there). The disc has a German "16" rating, so I wouldn't expect there to be any cuts!

I had the R1 "uncut" version but I sold it and got the R2 UK version. The cuts dont bother me and the picture quality of R2 version looks better on my setup.

Seeing as the UK set only costs £29 now I might get it, guess I can live with the cuts.

I'm more than happy with picture and sound quality of R2 set, hardly see the point of bothering with any other, I can live with the cuts

On the question of RELIABILITY of R4 suppliers, although I only have a few titles, I have found EzyDVD and chaosmusic.com to be very quick with titles arriving in less than a week with both.
