View Full Version : Alien Quadrilogy - Individual Pack Shots... Pretty Sweet!
I am having a really tough time trying to decide which version to buy! Region One boxset, Region Two boxset, or 1 - 3 individually (I don't really want Alien Resurrection)... Most people seem to be going for Region One..?

I have region 1 and didnt want Resurrection either but its worth havin Resurrection purely for the new opening title sequences, (( films still poor )) i'm lookin forward to watching the workprint of Alien 3, ive checked all 4 films out briefly and Alien and Aliens have superb picture quality and sound, better than the previous releases which i own.

I am getting the Region 2 set, packaging seems like it will last longer and seeing as the sets are almost if not completely identical dont see any reason to get anything else.

If it was just down to the films I would only buy Alien & possibly Aliens. But I'm a bit of a features man so now whole will have to be bought.
....Dear Father Christmas
Lex, I am assuming your pics are of the R1 versions, yes?
They look good but why do the boxes for each look so thick?
I thought the R1 version came in a long fold out thingy?

These are not from the boxset, but are individual titles which will go on sale in January...
Yes they are the region one versions... You can tell becasue the spines are numbered to go with the other Fox sci-fi 'classics' range.
I am thinking about replacing my current R1 Alien & Aliens with the the updated discs. Is it that much of an improvement over the previous prints (as the current ones are even THX certified). I find that my Alien R1 is pretty good but Aliens R1 looks quite grainy in places.
I am not certain whether Aliens is better in terms of PQ (though I think it is), it does have both version of the film (Director's Cut and Original) which is pretty good.
I see, well I'll probabky end up getting them and also the art work itself may be worth it judging from those pictures :smoke:
Any news on when these may be available for pre-oreder?

What's the quality like on the Alien 3 workprint?

I think the quality of the picture on Alien 3 is very good, the sound on the workprint isn't perfect at times but then it tells u this before u watch, also Aliens for me is much more detailed than the last release, this is probably due to better mpeg 2 compression and not due to some newly struck print.

Maybe not massively important but there's a few differences. Check here (http://www.dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film_results_page.php?fid=4361)

Interesting, thanks.
Where would you recommend getting the R1 version from in the UK? I would buy from Play, but they don't package boxsets up too well and they can get damaged.

I got mine from dvdsoon. Comes in a sturdy bubble wrapped box, no customs and cheap as chips! £38.98 delivered! using the basic coupon. Even cheaper if you order more and use a higher value coupon from their site :)

Cheers. To be honest as long as both versions have the important stuff then I am happy.. It says you cant watch deleted scenes in the films on R2. I presume they will be available as an option in the extras though..
I'll wait for your review, thanks.

I believe the R1 version has the option to watch the extra scenes seperately but to me honest I wouldnt want to do that, what would be the point in then having the seamless branching technology, going to watch all the originals then the extended versions.

The option to watch separately comes AFTER u have watched the film, its interesting to see what the additional scenes are because it's not going to be obvious just from watching the films if it's been a while since u saw them, even if you watch the original versions then the special extended editions it's interesting to have the option to watch the added scenes separately.
