Hi
Does anybody know what the difference, apart from model numbers, between the older P25 and newer P35 2 channel power amplifiers is ?
Many thanks.

The main differance between the P25 and the P35, is the topology of the amplifer.
The P25 uses a voltage feedback amplifer based on trench FET (MOSFET) output devices.
The P35 uses a Current feedback amplifer based on Darlington bipolar transistors.
The P35 is a lower noise and much higher bandwidth design. In listening tests here we found that this gave a more detailed and acurate presentation but still retaining the musical low fatigue "ARCAM" sound.
Clearly peoples preferances on sound all vairy so I would have to say the only way to be sure is to listen for yourself.

Hi Andy
Thanks for the info.
I have an A22 amp at present and would like to add a poweer amp to control my B&W N804s a lttle better.
It seems a logical time to upgrade the amp to A32 and buy the P35.
It what ways is the A32 an improvement over the A22.
When you say, "higher bandwidth", does this imply it is better suited to SACD and DVD Audio sources ?
Many thanks
Tom.

Thank was one of our motivations for updatign the design. To have an amplifer that did not compromise the bandwidth and noise floor avaialble form the new high resolution sources.

Andrew

Also the P35 uses a different remote control signal on the "REMOTE IN" and "TRIG OUT" 3.5mm plug to the P25; heaven knows why.
This can lead to incompatibilities, for example I have a A22+DAVE and a P25(3) and a P35(2), and when A22 is powered off it will also shut down the P25. But because the P35 uses different control codes it won't go into standby.
I spoke to Arcam's technical support about it and they knew all about it, but didn't know why.
It was a real pain to discover this as I can not switch all the amps to standby with a remote control; even more so, as I asked my dealer about compatibility when I wanted a second P25 but he suggested a P35 instead (which was brand new at the time).
It's a niggle every evening when I turn all my kit off, I just think "why Arcam why"; and just leave it always powered up.

The above stuff is all tech talk, can anyone actually compare the two after owning them, also would a P25 improve on the A32 sound?
Ignoring the remote issue for the moment.

Bi-amping either a P25 or P35 with an A32 will improve the sound, personally I hear little or no difference between the two.
The specs of these two power amps are on my eBay auctions:

Interesting, a p25/3 would be great on my system. I could potentially bi-amp my main speakers and use the third channel to run my centre speaker.
I currently have an A32 running the main speakers (fixed level mode for AV, normal setup for cd) and a denon 3802 running all other speakers.

That's pretty much what I used to do only using earlier models (Arcam 10p3 and Denon avr3300) and it worked nicely. It wasn't long before I decided to scrap the Denon altogether though and get a seperate processor and an old power amp for the rears.

Yes, the upgrade bug starts biting again as soon as you start switching between direct a32, and through the av amps.....
May win a FMJ AV8 within the hour....

I considered outbidding you for a moment but thought that was a bit unfair since it was your earlier post that pointed it out to me in the first place!
What are you upgrading from?

Thanks for not bidding..... although i'd bid just short of £1600.00
My current kit is listed below......
Now i add either the p7, p35 3 channel, or, i keep looking at the Brystons.....

Let me know if you want a Silver P35/3. My brother may have one going which I may take myself but I'm not sure what I'm doing yet.

Think thats my best route, the p35 3ch ??
is the p7 better than the a32, in 2 channels....
any plus's with sticking the dvd player direct to the a32 rather than through the av8 to a p7 ??

Hi Timmy,
Don't forget, no trading in the general forum sections like here. Please post in the classified forums if you wish to sell the power amp in the future.
Cheers

I think Crusty will need to answer that one. I use P35's as it's been a slow upgrade path from back when I was using old Delta series power amps, adding new ones when I had the spare cash.

Don't worry Andy, I wasn't going to break any rules. If DJ Blade was interested I would have put a post in the classifieds if/when it's available for sale.
