Hi, can anyone tell me how good the CD audio playback is on the DV78? How close is it to the CD73? Do I need to buy both?

Sorry, I have not heard the DV78 but the following might help anyway:
I've heard various comments putting the DV88/DV88+ somewhere above the CD62 and below the CD82 most common being slightly better than the CD72. I did listen to a DV88/AVR200 vs CD72/A75+ and the latter combination was a bit better but it was not a different league at all. In any case, I would say that the amps played a bigger role in the differences.
Given that the DV78 is supposed to mostly match the video performance of the DV88 but not the CD replay quality, I would say that it should not be as good as a CD73.
Of course, the best you can do is book yourself a demo.

I've got one but not had a chance to give it a good blast in audio yet, DVD performance is superb.
