Im looking around for a new screen at the moment. I have an 8 foot 16:9 screen procinema screen. I use a HTPC with my HT1000 and would be happier to use a 4:3 screen.

Why are 4:3 screens home cinema screens less expensive than a similar width 16:9 screen when they use more material.

Has anybody used a variable masking system with the pull down screen, if so any tips would be appreciated.

Probably because 16/9 screens are seen as "dedicated" home cinema screens - manufacturers can charge a premium for this "specialised" requirement :)

OK, there's masking too, but as you say, 4/3 actually have more "expensive" viewing material.

4/3 are more common for business/data use etc..

Are you looking for manual or electric? Budget? Size?

Would love electric, but too expensive at the moment, unless I get a great price for my 16:9 pro cinema.

Budget is unknown, what ever it costs to get a good screen....

Size 7 to 8 foot wide and 4:3 format.

Really impressed with your masking Sean but constrained myself (electric/retractable).

Will keep an eye out for your findings/suggestions/results.

Best of luck :)

K,

Unlike Baldrick, we do have a cunning plan................... problem is to find the time to get going on it.......... work continues to interfere with toy-time - a sad state of affairs, as you know only too well.................
