Maximum Performance Digital Interconnect.

High end cables without the high prices from Mark Grant.

A top quality digital interconnect co-axial cable manufactured using Belden (http://www.belden.com) 1694A Brilliance® broadcast quality co-axial cable.

This is an RG6 sized Precision 75 Ohm co-axial cable with solid core 18 AWG copper conductor, Gas-injected Foam High Density Polyethylene insulator, Duofoil® 100% foil screen and a 95% coverage tinned copper braided shield.

All cables are hand made to the highest possible standards using Canare (http://www.canare.com) specialist tooling for the cable stripping and connector crimping. The crimp tool has been calibrated to provide a crimp connection that is exactly to Canare specifications.
Caig (http://www.caig.com) products are used to clean and treat the core of the coax and crimp pin during the assembly process. Nothing left to chance, perfection every time.

Termination is with Canare impedance matched RCA phono connectors.
These are high quality crimped connectors, considered to be the best for digital applications. Also available are Canare BNC connectors at no extra cost.
(For use as SDI cables or with a DAC with BNC connections etc)

These professional grade cables offer a superb high bandwidth performance & a distortion free signal.

These cables will equal & in most cases outperform cables costing many times the price.

New prices updated January 06 - less range of lengths on the forum, but better prices :)

1 Metre £15
2 Metre £17
3 Metre £19
4 Metre £21

Prices include delivery within UK and include VAT , no hidden charges or extras !

If you require longer lengths, please order from my website.

I already have one of Mark's digital cables (earlier version) and it is excellent and provided sonic improvements over my previous cable which actually cost more than Mark is selling these for.

As someone who has regularly posted on 1694 on this site (and Canare plugs) , and even given away samples of this cable to forum members, I can fully endorse the approach that is being taken here. This is exactly how a digital cable should be made. As you see from the excellent prices it isn't expensive to do correctly either.

For those with 'exotic' hifi digital cables, you are going to be in for a shock, cables made like this WORK. Sorry vdh, chord.......(sub your favoutite here).

Well done Mark

I'm interested but have a question. I have either a choice of using one of these cables, 5m length( DVD under TV) with 1 m scart to TV or 5m scart to TV and 1m of co-axial to DVD in rack. 5m co-ax or 5m scart.
Kind regards
Phil.

Looking for component cables (5m) and possibly VGA cable.

Mark Grant

Hello Phil,

I would say use 5 Metres of this coax, as I doubt you will notice much difference in sound quality between a 1 Metre or 5 Metre coax cable of this quality.

With a 5 Metre scart you will most likely see a reduction in picture quality compared to a 1 Metre scart, and a good quality 5 Metre scart costs more than a 5 Metre coax, so save some money and have a better picture.

Hope that helps,

Mark.

Hello Berry,

Component cables will be soon, a week or so. I am waiting for few reels of cable and a box of connectors etc to be delivered.

VGA would have to be 5 x BNC terminated coax, far too fiddly to solder 5 huge coax cables into a 15 pin D plug.

I think that I still have your address from the excellent mains cable that I bought from you so I will put a cheque in the post to you for another one metre digital lead and will donate my prototype to Taz's Christmas charity to be auctioned along with the DVDs.

Hello Whuff and Redwick,

I have sent you an email/message.

Hello Beekeeper,

I will edit the first post and add a nice picture soon, just did not have a good quality photo to hand at the time of the first post.

No orange coloured rubber boots/hoods on these, (not mentioned in the first post, as they are not used on this cable) as they don't improve the sound at all. Trying to keep the price down as much as possible, without compromising performance at all.

Cables that need colours identifying will have the coloured rubber boots/hoods such as component cables etc. (component very soon)

Just to reassure any fence-sitters reading this thread - I have last night done an A/B comparison of Mark's coax against the well-regarded Chord Prodac at £69. Listening to cd's on a Pioneer 505 Precision through a Cyrus AV8 and Rotel RMB-1075, MG's coax immediately struck me as more "analogue" sounding - slightly less harsh/bright than the Chord, without being soft. If anything dynamics were slightly improved on the Prodac - no mean feat - also the ambient detail was better resolved, and instruments were a little more clearly placed..... an astonishing result for a £20 cable!! It's clearly a no-brainer IMO - get your order in quick, before Mark decides his coax is worth double the price.....

Hello Jim,

I can post this to arrive for the weekend, would need to be special delivery for about £4 extra to be sure of delivery before the weekend.

Hi Mark

I have a HTPC where the S/PDIF out on the soundcard is a Minijack (mono) and of course the Amp end is RCA.

Can you help?

Also, I could have and interest in high quality VGA, as I'm connecting to my Plasma and PJ from the graphics card. DVI out to VGA or BNC in would be one cable and VGA to VGA would be the other?

Finally, the soundcard feeds analogue signals through one - stereo Minijack to two RCA AND two - 4 Pole Minijack to 3 RCA (this is apparrantly a lead that uses the same connection setup as the Sony camera lead and NOT the Panasonic camera lead - they both look the same but wired differently at the Minjack end). The other problem here is that the three Minijacke sockets are pretty close together, such that a right angled Minjack I tried was too big.

I'm not too hopeful that you can help on the above as no one else can but worth a try!

For the sake of a few quid I fancy giving your cable a go Mark. The chance to try out genuine 75ohm plugs being my biggest draw, although i have to say the cable looks like it is very well made from the photo and the materials spec is seemingly good all round.
I seem to remember reading somewhere that there was an advantage with digital cables of having then slightly longer than the standard 1m, i don't know or can't remember why though, ( bandwidth, wave-length, snake oil ? ) I only really need a 1m cable but will go for a longer one if somebody can come up with a plausable reason why i should do so. If you think the length thing is hogwash then a 1m cable will do just fine.

I'd like to pay online via pay-pal if thats OK ?

I know this is probably one of those questions that you can't really answer definitively, but...

I'm currently upgrading my setup and having seen the posts about your very good cables I was wondering, I currently have a Black Rhodium Rondo 1m interconnect, would I get any benifit from one of yours or would the difference be very small or no upgrade at all?

Also I'm certain I remember reading in one of your cable threads that one of them was available in white, which one was it, subwoofer would be nice as it would blend in much better as I have to run it along the skirting..

Cheers

Ryan

Mark Grant

Hello Ryan,

I have never tried a Black Rhodium Rondo, so the best way is for you to try yourself in your system. Sent you an email :)

No white Canare LV77S yet for subwoofers, a full reel is expensive to buy. I could maybe buy some white LV61S that is also good for audio interconnects and subwoofer use.

thanks,

Mark.

You've obviously had a busy weekend because my digital coax cable arrived this morning too. Put it straight into the system to listen to "Hell Freezes Over" and "Led Zeppelin" both on DTS. Really excellent!! Much better at the frequency extremes than my Ixos (or my cheapo cable). Smooth, detailed and extended.

Lovely build quality too. Will be ordering some component cables soon!

Hi Mark,
the cable arrived on Monday or Tuesday morning. First impressions:
Excellent quality of materials, excellent quality of workmanship, good, basic, fuss free postage and packaging. All in all 20 quid seemingly well spent on a 'DIY' item that could possibly put many commercial products to shame. ( Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair !)
I'll not comment on sonic properties as I've not had a 'proper' sit down and listen, It can often be very subjective anyway. First aural impressions, in a very quick demo this morning ,are that it certainly doesn't sound any worse than a similar £80 item i've been using. we'll see.

Thanks.

Thank you Mark I have received my cables this morning.
Here is my review.
I had a little play with each of the cables I have ordered. A 2m sub cable and 1m digital interconnect. I have a Denon 3802, Toshiba 210 DVD player, Kef Q series speakers and a Rel Q150E sub. Sample movie was Phone booth and I watched the first 3 scenes. Changed the interconnect first and noticed a difference immediately, with a deeper base and clearer sound. My old cable is a Profigold PDG481 as raved about in What Hi-Fi. Mark's cable is definitely better but the cost is exactly the same as the profigold, sorry I cannot compare with a £100 cable but all I can say is "Its an upgrade on what I had."
Any one want to buy a profigold 1m digital interconnect, slightly used.
Next I put the old cable back in and tried the Mark's 2m Subwoofer cable. All I can say is "standard" sound shook the sofa never mind a "bang!". My old cable is a Ixos one but I am un-sure of the model.
Well now I tried again with both of Mark's cables and I was blown away. The difference is amazing, it sounded like I had either upgraded the DVD player or had a new amp. For less than £50 I have a better system, even though to look at, its the same.
I am now thinking of getting the component cable as well, just need to get a DVD player and screen that it will work with, not to mention audio leads, power cables, scart, .....

Peter Baker

I have a 5 channel power amp to connect to a pre/pro with 5 individual leads, options are balanced or phono. As I don't have particularly long runs, I thought phono would be fine. Is your cable suitable, or should I use analogue specialist.
I also have a DVD, CD, Tivo, TV and Video to connect in. I currently use a few sets of cables picked up over the years, including at the top end a pair of Audionote pure silver, a cheaper pair of audionote copper, a specialist hand made pair by definitive audio, a pair of kimber, and a pair of ixos.
Any thoughts on changing some or all of these?

Peter

Hi Mark

I would like a 2m digital coax cable for connecting DVD player to reciever. I'm not sure what connectors are required  but i'm sure you do...

A bit O/T:
I also need cables to connect output from plasma/tuner box to reciever input. Again I am clueless which cable(s) I require, but i'm sure you can sort me out. Optical out and dig coax out are not on the tuner box. The only dedicated sound output, I think, is on the actual screen, where it has the pull up connector thingys, where at the moment, I am connecting two speakers to it by just putting the loose wires in.
So would I be able to use the output from that to input into my reciever and prologic 2 it up to 5.1 sound? Or more importantly if its possible would you be able to provide the cable? and how much?
Or have I totally lost the plot???

Also component cable required... But would not like to spend £50 on 1m, so do you do any cables of lower quality but cheaper?

Nochex payment waiting...

Thanx a lot m8

PS: sorry if this is too off topic. If it is, ill post else where

Hello jlcd,

Sorry, not at the moment.
If I ever get the time I will look for suppliers for HDMI connectors etc.

link here:

Available up to 5M online, claimed to work at more than 20M.
So someone must have 20M cables...

Hi Mark,

many thanks for the cable, received it this morning, It has quality written all over it!
You could possibly advise me. I'm currently on the lookout for a subwoofer, and i know you do the cable for it. My choice is between the Rel Quake, and the MJ Acoustics, althouth in saying that, i've not heard the acoustics yet.
If i go with the MJ Acoustics, i noticed it has a two inputs into it, as apposed to the Rel's one input. Do you know anything about this? Would i need a special cable for this or would the one you sell do for this?

Cheers

Martin

Astro, you only need to use one of the two sub inputs.
No special capble replied, unless you find you need to increase the signal in which case you would use a Y-Splitter.

cheers stellavision.

Does it go into any particular one? Do you have this sub, or have you heard it?

Astro, I have not heard either subs you mention. If you post on the Speakers and Subwoofers thread there should be someone who may be able to help you make your mind up.

As for the inputs, either left or right is usually OK.

Hello Gonzodad, stellavision and Gestev,

Sent you all a PM or email,

thanks for the orders :)

Hello Astro,

Bargain at £20, thought you would like it :)

When you buy your subwoofer, the phono conection on the subwoofer is the bass input usually. On your AV amp you will find a phono connector labelled 'sub out' or LFE out etc.

As stellavision says, ask in the speaker and subwoofer forum for subwoofer advice, there is plenty of choice at the Rel quake price level.

You know where to buy the best subwoofer cables from ;)

.Kebab,

Fot the coaxial output from a Sky box to a second TV , all you need is some decent quality TV/satellite coax and connectors.(nice and cheap)
That is just a TV signal from the sky box, not the same as digital audio.

I have sent you an email with some advise :)

thanks,

Mark.

I have purchased a pioneer elite vsx 59txi and a mitsubishi ws 73713. I also have a progressive scan sony es 400 disc dvd player. What cables do you recomend for the connections? I would like to purchase them from you. Also do you deliver to USA, Dallas, Texas?
thanks.

Hello michaelhojas,

As you are in USA, I have sent you email with advise on buying nearer home :)

The Belden 1694A would be used from the digital audio coax output from DVD player to digital audio input on AV amplifier.

Belden 7710A component cable would be used for component video between the DVD component output to TV component input.
if you want to switch video sources with the AV amp, you will need two component cables. One to connect component video from DVD to AV amp input, then another to take comnponent video from AV amp output to the TV input.

Hope that helps,

Mark.
