Hello,
I've got a DV88 using a QED blue scart cable with a (pants) Thomson 28WF401G tv.
The question is would it be worth my while forking out £100+ on a chord scart with the above combo?
Thanks
Dave

Hi Dave,
I personally won't think is is worth it, generally the QED scarts are pretty good. What model is it you have?

The QED is a Dual Screen Silver Reference.
I have heard loads of good things about the chord but not sure I'll see the benefit from the extra money with my TV.
Thanks for the reply BTW.

I have the Chord RGB SCART, it is very good with my DV27 + Loewe TV, but that´s all I can tell you, never tested the QED...

The Chord RGB cable is excellent, it's not cheap though.
It is definitely a step up from the QED, although the benefits on a 28" TV would be minimal.
On a 32" or 36" or RPTV the difference would be more significant.
I recently compared the chord scart costing £135 to one from keene electronics costing £29.99 and there was no difference between them in rgb quality at all,and that was using a proceed dvd costing £7500,so any benifits in qaulity should have shown up if they were there.I have come to the conclusion, that there is a lot of nonsence claimed for so called super cables

I use the Chord RGB on my SKY+ box and previously used the QED one - this is on a 36" CRT in the family room and the difference was quite noticeable.
Even my tone deaf and half blind wife noticed an immediate improvement, she asked me what have I changed with no prompting at all.
Cables can and do make a difference, there is enough people on these forums who have spent a fair bit on money on good expensive cables (kimber, nordost et al). If there was no benefit over cheap cables why have all these people (myself included) spent good money on them.
I wouldn't have bought Nordost Red Dawn speaker cable @ £170/metre and SPM interconnects @ £850 each if they were no better than something costing £2.00/metre. I tried many cables, some cheap and some more expensive than the ones I finally bought.
I went for the ones that worked best in my system.
It's all in the the eyes and ears of the beholder

I also have spent money on cables.Siltech sl 180 speaker cable and nordost qauttro fil interconnects. So I know what is good but Ialso know what is over priced .You say its all in the ears and eyes ,I think you should also add IMAGINATION to your list

Not at all.
If something makes a visible or audible difference - it's not imagination is it.

Thanks for the comments folks.
Think I'll try to arrange a demo of the Chord RGB at home before shelling out for it.
Cheers!

Don't waste your money, just buy a well screened QED or IXOS.

Alwyn,
You seem very sceptical regarding cables, if that is the case why do you own Siltech and Quattro Fil cables in your own system?
Seems a bit strange that's all
Just a query now though - what do you have your Proceed DVD plugged into TV wise - did it come with scart prefitted or was it an upgrade???
I tried it about 18 months ago, it was very, very good, but rather too noisy.
Cheers

Can't say until we compare it with another HDMI cable which costs £100 - apples and pears sir.
Texasboy. The connection is made through the pvp card,it allows a scart to 4 rca rgb plus composit sync. The pvp card then converts the signal to component.Your unit must not have had this extra,it cost an an extra £1500.(prog. scan) What the pvp card does,is to make the player a processor enabling any other video signal to be changed into a prog. one.

Contrerary to Beekeepers comment, I have the Chord RGB Scart cable and to say or even try and put it in the same class as a well screened QED or IXOS is amusing. The Chord is far superior, and I've had IXOS, QED and Chord scarts and still own the Chord because of its outstanding quality and performance.

we differ then as I have also had all these SCARTS and Thors and my experience is obviously different. :)
mind you the Chord guy at the Event was moaning we weren't using proper cables (Chord?), I was just using min RG59 75 ohm coax and most of the time Belden 1505a RG59, ALL 75 ohm as endorsed by John Dawson (ARCAM) in his talk about what the cable needs to do to transmit analogue video signals 9say from his ARCAM)...... this is when Chord went right down in my estimation, I have had dealings with this company for a least 15 years now and have a huge number of their products........but what they were spouting was just plain rubbish

Beekeeper, I'll 2nd that one. If we all thought the same and we were all physically the same there would be no need for different vendors...we'd all be buying the same cables.
onefivenine : Only thing I could possibly say is that if you have a good relationship with your local store, they may give you a 'loan' of a choice of a couple of 'demo' scarts for you to take away and decide which one is best suited for you and your setup.
Good luck on your decision. Personally, I think thats half the fun

I eventually got hold of a Chord RGB scart for a few days. Can't see any difference whatsoever to be honest. Have watched bits of - Saving Private Ryan, Gladiator Superbit, XXX s-bit, Vertical Limit s-bit, X-Men 2, Jurassic Park 3, Raiders OTLA, Matrix Reloaded - all R2 disks BTW.
Seems to me like an extra £75 on the scart won't make a noticable difference (on my hardware anyway!) so I'll stick to the QED silver reference for now.
Cheers
