Aussie site Michael D's has reviewed this and reckons that it has a full bitrate (1536Kb/s) DTS track.
Has anyone got a copy yet to confirm this?
Cheers
Laurence
If Michael D says it's fullbitrate I believe him/them they are often rigth about that and not just a misprint.
PS from the review we can gather that we will get the same version here:)

It seems the R2 UK release is only DTS Half bitrate (768k) - Theres a review on a UK website and i asked them and they said it was 768k Half bite rate :( .
So the R4 seems to be the best one to get.

Are the far east versions not FullBitrate also ?
so why is the R4 also R2 encoded when we get a different set??
doesn't really make sense

Perhaps the region 4 is also halfbitrate, the reviewer could be wrong its possible as we're all only human.
I'm thinking the same now. There haven't been to many fullbitrate DTS for a long time (the last one was the french Asterix and Obelix, mission cleopatra)
Still they actually had to check whatever programme they use to check (I use powerdvd) and it can only give you two different answers so unless you read a 768 as 1536mm
Doesn't really metter though as long as it's a good track.

the reviewer does mention that it's full rate DTS in the review rather than just listing it in the specs so I'd guess it must be. Very tempted with the R4/2

Well, if you go to the bottom of Michael D's review you can see some comments - read them. Or maybe it was links to a forum??? Can't remember - it was late.
Anyway the point is that other aussie's report it as half bitrate not full bitrate! Whats going on?
Addendum 7 November 2003: Now that the DTS bitrate has been correctly identified as recorded at 768Kb/s, the above comments about the expected performance of a high bitrate DTS track do not really apply. That being said, the DTS track is still slightly superior for the reasons described above.

Theres now an edit on Michael D's site that confirms that its a half bitrate track not a full one.

So is the R4 version still worth getting over the R2 / R1 then?
well R2 and R4 are now exactly the same, they are worth getting over the R1, definitely. There will be no difference between R2 and R4 except for release date (earlier for R4) and price.
another R2/4 review
