AV8/P7 speaker suggestions

If my resistance were to fail totally -- and it's not far off -- and I upgrade my FMJ A22(2),P25(3),P35(2) combination to AV8+P7, which speakers would be recommended.

Five or seven speaker THX set for approximately same price as AV8+P7 would be nice.

Errr...Antonio, you still need cables for active speakers ;) Only, it's interconnects instead of speaker cables.

Sure, but the same ICs, just longer, and I save speaker cables + 4 PCs just for the powers, I know each speaker will have a PC, but spreaded thru the room, and the rack will be emptier, could even be anywhere in the room, as balanced cables can be long without problems... :devil:

Now that is an idea, and i can check it out this weekend.

Have never really looked at active speakers before, does this mean lots of power cables everywhere -- although thinking about it, even if I had 7.1 (eight) speakers each one would be next to a power point. Woot!

Have a look at the Mackies & ATC as well if you are thinking about the active route. I think Spligsey has the Mackies and General Skanky has demo'd the ATC actives.

I don't know what level you compare a passive speaker to an active speaker. For example using my system, the speakers retail for £7,000 and the Amp £2,500. So for a 7.1 sysyem, ignoring the .1, that gives a spend of around £1,300 or so for each speaker. Will the comparitively priced active system compare to the passive at this price level? I haven't the faintest, probably someone like Beekeeper would know.

I haven't heard their other ranges but I must admit that I saw some of the Evidence range (the Master) and think they looks very sweet indeed!

Or if active floats your boat them maybe Meridians 5500 or 5000 Series, I think they come in either Digital or Analogue flavours.

You are correct, I'm thinking Bowers & Wilkins are indeed a bit too mainstream and conservative -- how may B&W speakers do you see in "Get your plasmas out for lads" photos?

I should stop this now, first it was "perhaps I'll change my plasma", then "think I'll upgrade amps to THX Ultra 2", then it's "I'll need new THXU2 speakers too", then "active or passive speakers". The dark side is calling me ... must ... stop...

Thanks for ATC thoughts, i did look at them last the dark side was tempting me with AV upgrades. Do these work particularly well with Arcam FMJ or is this a they are generally very cool suggestion?

If your talking non-mainstream maybe a set of Ruark Preludes for front with another 2 sets of Proluges for rears, a Dialogue one MKII for centre and a couple of Log Rythm Subs.

I can't speak from experience, but an Arcam P7 might have some problems driving Nautilus 802s - you need something really pretty high-powered to drive those. I've heard a P7 drive 803s quite comfortably, though.

A lot of people are extremely fond of B&W's Signature 805 as well, with good reason: it's a BIG step up in quality from the Nautilus 805. Many people prefer it even to the Nautilus 803. I am not among them, but I can understand why.

With speakers like the upper end Nautilis that are difficult to drive, what specs should you look at on both the amp and speakers? I take it, it's not a pure watts issue.

Finished a similiar system with JMLab Electras a little while ago. The Arcam pieces sounded stellar with the Electras in surround and stereo. No problems driving them what-so-ever.
