that's strange that it's happening with the latest update as this was one of the faults that was rectified with v4.03

Re: possible fault firmware 5.06???

seems to happen after the films been running a while , if you put a disc in let it start then stop it no problems , im letting a disc play through to test this theory

anyone got the old firmware 4.08 or 4.12 which ever came before the 5.xx

i watched the same dvd last night with no problem.

I travel allot and I did the update 2 weeks ago when it came out and then left for California an hour later. I have no idea what it did to the player other than that my DV137 still works and my wife has not bitten my head off for breaking the DVD player before I left. She has watched a few movies and has not reported any major issues. I will do more testing when I get back next week.

Re: possible fault firmware 5.06???

I've updated about 2 dozen DV137s and DV139s for customers and the two 139s that I own myself. One of the after-upgrade tests I do is to play a DVD-R that has test material on it as well as some general video in 4:3 and 16:9 just to test everything out.

Every player I upgraded played these DVD-Rs just fine....and I've had no complaints from customers one of whom plays almost nothing BUT DVD-R...

Crusty gets his software files and .ISO files from the same place I get mine: the Arcam Dealer Extranet so yes, they are the same files....

All my firmware files are sourced from the Arcam Dealer Extranet site are therefore no different to any disc supplied by Arcam.

There would be no problems with this, the player does not need to be upgraded sequentially so to speak. When you upgrade the firmware my impression is that the existing firmware is erased and replaced by the new version. Therefore it wont matter if you jump to the latest firmware from a much older version.

Regarding 5.06, I've had one glitch where the player froze mid way through a film. I had to power cycle and then all seemed well. It's only happened on one occasion so far.

Perhaps 5.07 is right around the corner, especially if Arcam are reading this.

I've also had this happen once in 5.06 - ejecting the disc, reloading and skipping to the same place fixed it.

Had the same problem with one disc of Men Behaving Badly last night - doesn't happen all the time, and I haven't managed to work out if it is disc-dependent yet.

Re: possible fault firmware 5.06???

Not yet...

Since most of you folks are probably in the UK I watched some PAL Region 2 discs in my collection just to see if it was a format/region issue that I was not seeing in NTSC configuration but did not have a problem with any of the discs I tried in PAL/Region 2 or NTSC/Region 1.

I also tried DVD-R and DVD+R copies of discs in both configurations with no apparent problems.

I've not heard back from any customers although I have left them follow up emails and/or phone calls asking "how is the player doing since the upgrade and if there are any issues to please contact me ASAP".

Re: possible fault firmware 5.06???

My wife has played several movies and has had no issues. We just watched one and I hit stop at the end (credits). It did the typical stop with resume option thing. Is this where you hit stop or is it after the credits and the player reverts back to the disc menu, then you hit stop?

I know that is a new setting in the player. Is yours set to stop with resume or just to stop? Also, have you tried to do a "restore factory settings". Maybe something got hosed, dumb as it may sound. I have had audio dropouts in the past. I tried factory reset to see if I set something that was causing it and noticed that after a firmware upgrade the player liked to be reset and then manually set up again. Just write down all of your settings before the restore and then there is nothing to loose by trying it. My player defaulted to HDMI (or somthing) anyway for some reason the picture was all screwed up. I had just gone through the menu so I was familliar with how many clicks (menu, down once, select and what the options that I could select was) so I "fumbled blindly for a few tries but got it working. So maybe this option shoud be used with caution. Up to you.

Re: possible fault firmware 5.06???

if i press stop it freezes (pauses) if i press play again it goes to the main menu of the disc ,the only way to get to the arcam screen is to eject the disc also why would all my dvd-r stop playing ,

edit

reloaded ver 5.06 and this time after powering down and restarting i did a factory reset , the player plays my dvd-r now but it takes a while.after inserting the disc the front displays play/pause/ chapter the disc spins up slows down maybe 6-9 times which it never did before

will try the problem discs when i get a chance

cheers

Re: possible fault firmware 5.06???

Ok, after loading firmware 5.06, I've had a strange problem. I can play PAL discs just fine, but whenever I've tried to play NTSC discs, the image would be smeared on the screen, as if there's an HDMI failure. I've tried switching the player AND the screen (a Panny TH65PF9) off and on again, and the problem persists.

I've since gone back to firmware 4.12 and my DV139 works as before. No problems. Any ideas as to why this is happening?

Re: possible fault firmware 5.06???

Ripclaw, not really sure, I don't use HDMI yet. I have and older RPTV that uses component with progressive scan. My best guess is to try like my last post says, do a factory reset, in case any of your settings are not compatible or have changed in the new update. All I have are NTSC discs and my player is set to region 13 (all), I am in the USA so I have not bought any pal discs yet. Think my parents might have some PAL ones I can try even though I know those are the ones that worked for you.

Killer10971, so that means if you use stop anywhere in the movie it acts as a pause? I know you have not tested it this time around but just trying to be clear on the issues last time.

I am playing a DVD+r home movie right now that I made a while ago. It only spun up once for me and then started right away. When I selected a chapter it seemed to play back a bit jumpy at first but smothed out in 30 sec or so. I am about 10 min in and have no issues for now. Stop goes to the Arcam screen and play resumes it.

Re: possible fault firmware 5.06???

watched a film tonight and no problems with disk resume off and it was a dvd-r , put disk resume on and let same film play for 45 minutes still no problems

seems the reset after the firmware update may have sorted it ,fingers crossed
