Strange DV139 Problem

Hello, I recently "upgraded" from a DV137 to a DV139. I hooked it up during the day and everything was fine, that evening, the remote wouldn't respond to any commands on the Arcam remote from the DV139, it wouldn't respond to my universal remote which worked that afternoon and it wouldn't respond with the remote from my DV137. I took it to the dealer the next day, they called me after an hour and said that it worked fine and maybe it was just a electronics glitch that corrected itself. I took it home and it worked perfectly, it responded to all my remotes. Tonight, once again, it won't respond to any of the remotes.

I am thinking that it is a bad IR that will work after a brief period where the unit is unplugged from a power source but won't respond after it is plugged in for a while. The whole thing is a bit strange, I am taking it back to my dealer tomorrow and re-inserting my DV137 for now.

On another note, the DV139 had trouble on a DVD that my 137 plays perfectly.

Any input would be appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Strange DV139 Problem

You don't happen to have fluroescent lights by any chance do you, or anything else around that emits IR light?

Older fluros can actually emit IR light. Because remotes work on IR, if there is a high level of IR light due to another source, then it can cause problems with the IR pickup.

My dealer questioned the same thing, I don't have that type of issue and have had other Arcams FMJ's where I believe the IR sensor is similar there in the past. My dealer told me today that they are going to replace it which is pretty much all I can ask for.

Re: Strange DV139 Problem

I am sure this isn't the problem you have but it solved my initial numb-skull 139 problems which had similar symptoms. I had pressed one of the buttnos on the remote telling it to drive the TV or something, and was then trying to drive the DVD without clicking the DVD button.

I'm so ashamed to confess that I wish I had a temporary ID to hide behind
