Arcam AVR 360

AVLAND have an advertisement on their site for an Arcam AVR 360, due mid June 2012 (same time as the BDP 300) priced at £1299.

Hi, I am interested in the Arcam AVR360 Receiver too but waiting for reviews to decide. 75 watts all channels driven does not sound too powerful but it might be enough

Considering the cost for the 400 new, seems a tad high

I think there seems to be a bit of an obsession with power in amplifiers these days - most well designed modern speakers don't require much power, especially if the amp has been well designed with good current delivery. I had an Avr 250 which was more than up to the job of driving large b&w floor standers to levels (and more importantly quality) beyond that in cinemas.

I was interested in the Arcam AVR360 but these Benchmark tests dont look too good in this review.

I might have to go for the Yamaha RX-A2010 which is said to be good with music too.

What are you referring to? WPC? Onkyo's M5000 power amp drives many high end speakers with only 80wpc. I remember the launch of the AVR600 which we had at our open evening - that night it drove a KEF Reference system for about 4-5 hours straight without any issues.

Out of curiously anyone compared the 360 to a Yamaha DSP Z7? The Z7 seems to have the edge on power and is no slouch musically so would be interested to hear whether it can compete or is a AVR400 a better comparison?

Most probably the AVR400 would be a better comparison as it has more power.
There does seem to be a lack of input about this ARCAM AVR360 dont think many people have one. I am interested but there are no reviews yet so I am a holding off for a while

Except that the AVR400 has even worse results than the 360 in the Home Theatre Review's video test:

Sorry to hijack this thread but I assume the poor video performance is from when it's scaling video and not from HDMI passthrough?

The review (follow previous hyperlink) recommends:
Quote:
We recommend, if possible, that you use the video circuits in this A/V receiver in passthrough mode, where it performs well, and do any desired upconversion or other video processing in either the source or the display.
This suggests that HDMI pass-through is OK, unlike transcoding ("upconversion").

Phew as hoping an upgrade to a 3D board won't be a regret

Both the 360 and the 400 already have HDMI 1.4 / 3D boards. Your sigh of relief is perhaps a little premature, unless Arcam's AVR600/AVP888 upgrade board is a different one?

Well I won't be using it for any scaling just unadulterated HDMI passthrough...hopefully
