On past reputation they at least deserve the chance of improving on the BDP-100.

Strangely enough I'm aware of that having worked for a large Arcam dealer for several years, but that aside this was a £1,000+ blu ray player that couldn't / can't play certain movies, one that is so unfixable that there's an 'upgrade' program.

Yes, they could deliver something that works and by works I mean basic functionality. I'm sure when it hits the bricks we'll see how it fares.

I'm sure Arcam will come up trumps with its second generation player

Does anybody know how much the new arcam blu ray will retail for and sevonoaks are discounting the BD-100 to £749. I am thinking if I can pick up a BD-100 cheap and pay for a upgrade it might work out cheaper than buying the new model.

Although I'm not yet in the market for a Blu-ray player (or even a player to replace my DV137), I'm sure I'm not alone in hoping that a new player will support SACD and DVD-A.

Surely it can't be too much work/expense to include this functionality?

I think alot comes down to licensing cost vs user base

It comes down to finding a Blu-ray chipset that supports them. You can't just bolt them onto any old existing Blu-ray design.

Thanks. I'll admit that I don't understand some of the technical details - or issues that may exist with regard to licensing - but considering there are universal disc players already out on the market that support BD, SACD and DVD-A etc, and that Arcam appeared to "champion" the hi-res audio formats, it would seem such a shame for them to now "turn their back" on these.

I'll guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Following a recent conversation with Arcam Customer Support, I am 99% sure that the new Arcam Blu Ray player will not be universal.

About £900. And have more features.

The spec is still to be announced. And yes, it was not quite ready for the Bristol Show.
Will the upgrade also be available to BDP 100 owners outside the UK?

I have spoken to Arcam Customer Support again. Matt told me that the new Blu Ray player will be available mid April. I would not be surprised if this is delayed further until mid May!

Hi Folks,

Glad I came to visit as it's been a while. Visiting from the San Francisco area of California.

It's funny I read this thread and you would think the current Arcam player is the biggest disaster of the 21st Century. I bought a new display today, the Sharp 70 Elite and it has 3D. I may not become a fan but I of course want to try it out.

I was actually quite displeased as I have had the Arcam player for a year and I have never performed a firmware update and it has played every disc for me and never a lock-up or a disc that won't play in a year. The picture and sound have been excellent (I use a dedicated Rega Saturn CDP) so my comment is based on blu-ray only. The player was simple to set-up and use and I have really enjoyed it. I now need 3D for the Elite display.

I was thrilled to find out that a new Arcam might be coming and I will be patient until June to confirm and then I will need to move on. I would love an upgrade or trade-in package for the BDP-100 and I think if Arcam does this it will really set them apart. I do not need another blu-ray player tossed into the bedroom. I prefer a trade-in.

I still have faith and love my current Arcam player. I hope you all are correct that a player is coming as I don't want to move on from Arcam yet but I need 3D.

Will be checking in often for updates!

Regards
Rick

Those with AV9's wont be happy to hear no multi outs. They are probably better off with an Oppo 95 anyway :-) This new unit is not going to be easy to shift after the last one's issues. HDMI has not been kind to Arcam.

Let's see what will be the end of this. I am a bit puzzled that it has taken this long although appreciating that development takes time. I could fear that some of what Arcam achieved with the BD100 may be lost in the new model for one or another reason.

I have had it confirmed that trade in will be available in Denmark (the story is that the former agent did not import the player, although imported it on request, and only recently it has become available again).

As stated in another thread, I spoke to Arcam. At the most they expect their website to be updated within two weeks and they expect the new player to start shipping within four weeks.

It is very likely that the new player will have only one hdmi output and no mutichannel outputs for older av amps.

Thanks, i assume that a trade in then will also be available in The Netherlands. I think Arcam has an obligation in this because of the problems with the BDP 100 and the fact that they didn't fulfill the promise that a 3d upgrade path would be available for the BDP 100.

Just spoke to Sevenoaks, to upgrade your BDP100 to the 300 is going to cost you £500... absolutely shocking if you ask me!

You could buy an Oppo 93 for that

Ouch. So in total that's £1500 for a non universal BD player if you include the purchase of the BDP100.

Plus you are loosing £500 in 18 months on the original purchase price if you got one from the beggining.

I'll stick to my DV139 and CA 651!

Unfortunately it definetely is £500. Apparently the new machines are being manufactured in a completely different factory to the BDP100, so a simple upgrade isnt achievable. After just spending £500 to upgrade my AVR600, this is just another slap to the face.

I hope that factory is in Cambridge and they have learnt from the BDP100.

I'm also getting to the point were I may pull the plug on my AVR600 and the fact Arcam are now ignoring my emails isn't helping!

I totally agree, they are not responding to me either, I have the cd37 and 7 arcam muso's which are about to go because the brackets do not allow the speaker to point down enough. Just had enough!!!!!

I have sent arcam emails asking a number of question and never had a reply and one was a quote for a casing to be replaced and nothing. Not very good customer service.

i was told that owners that had had serious issues would be upgraded free of charge or under £200 , 3 players and 2 avr400s (one that gave me shocks) i think puts me in the serious issues bracket

if this is true then i will be phoning arcam for a response
