Thanks for the reassuring replies guys.

Could i ask what interconnects you guys are using? I'm wondering if its possible that my cheap 19.99 one is the weak link?

Thanks.

I am using a pair of XLO Pro RCA interconnects. They are about 16 years old.

People have played with the PSUs but does anyone have any feedback of mods to the DAC itself such as by Fidelity Audio?
It's difficult trying to quantify the quality and cost implication of any potential mod versus using the same money just to buy a higher end DAC...
Any ideas or opinions?

The interconnect used between pc and dac is an Audioquest Cinnamon (usb2.0)

Interconnects on my stereo are all vandenHull;
The second (carbon) between pre and (2stereo) power amps
The first, "the ultimate" (carbon) between dac and pre-amp
The first, (carbon) between minidisc and pre-amp
QED silver biwire from poweramps to loudspeakers

I was told that there is a "rule" or something that says you should spend inbetween 10 - 15% in total equipmentvalue on interconnects, if this is true i don't know.

My system is getting there finally, i was having alot of trouble with my pc hardwired to the Nas through our router even though i was using cat7 cables.
Alot of noises and clicks sounding like the drummer was skipping a beat, very frustrating
Asio wasn't helping much, i thought
Finally last week i pulled the networkcable from the pc and switched to wifi (router to pc) and i'm still waiting for the clicks

Finally it works like it should be, Albumplayer is working fine for me so after my vacation i'm gonna setup the database with correct albumcovers and info on every artist in my system.

The Rdac is sounding better and better every day so i'm very happy after saying goodbye to my old Arcam Alpha9.

Keep you posted after the 100 hours

rdac and airport express, still usb connect?

Also the USB interface of the rDAC is async USB (from dCS) so should have lower jitter and therefore improved sound quality.

And, regardless of the capabilites of the MacMini / MacBook Pro optical output's spec: the rDAC can only do upto 48k via optical.

As an aside, the Apple TV and AirPort Express are both only capable of 44.1 & 48k.

In summary, with the rDAC, the answer is pretty clear: if you use a computer as the source, use the USB connection.

if i connect my rdac to an airport express, will the usb on the express output sound? i know the apple tv will not.

can i play FLAC files through the express (i believe ATV does not allow this)?

if the express outputs through USB, is this better option that optical connection via ATV?

and finally, would i be better off connecting rDac directly to computer, from a sound quality perspective?

thank you

Thanks Fluid, it does help.

Will the computer via direct USB produce a significant improvement? Is the lower sound quality using the ATV or airport express because of the apple unit itself or because I would have to use the optical input in this scenario instead of the USB?

If so I was thinking of going the USB route when I want to have a good session myself, and then getting ATV so my wife can use her Ipad without having to turn on the computer and connect it to the rDac. Do you believe there would be a difference in sound between ATV and express?

And finally, is there another option to stream music wirelessly into the DAC that would yield better result than the apple product, without spending too much? I am getting a synology NAS, not sure if that has airplay.

Thanks for your help.

Hi all, I have just procured an rDAC-kw from these forums and now I am interested in upgrading the power supply.

The Maplin VN10L Regulated AC Adaptor seems to have had good results for some people, but these seem to have been discontinued. Is anyone aware of an equivalent product at reasonable money (circa twenty quid) that would do the job?

If not, I would be interested in buying the VN10L from anyone who has upgraded beyond their rDAC.

Thanks!

Scrap the above question....thought mine was faulty but it's working fine now it seems. I have another question though. I'm using my rDAC with a Squeezebox so was wondering if there would be anything to be gained in upgrading the power supply on the Squeezebox as well or is that not gonna help.
