Question AVR280 Test Tone level Error?

I have just replaced my sub so went through the set-up process using my sound meter. I started to run through the speakers one by one using the test tone FL and Ctr did not need adjusting but when I selected FR the visual indicator was where it used to be, +2db, but the audible level was very high and I had to bring it down -10db to bring the level back in line with the other speakers. When I finished the set-up and returned to normal use I could hardly hear the FR speaker so I returned the visual indicator to +2db and all sounded fine. Any ideas? Should I take it in for repair or is there a fix? Many thanks.

Re: AVR280 Test Tone level Error?

Is it fine now? If it is then I would forget about it unless/until it happens again.

Cool Re: AVR280 Test Tone level Error?

The problem is that the if I set the RF speaker level using the test tone the actual level when using the system is too low. I think the sub level has the same problem. The test tone does not provide accurate calibration any more. But to answer your question, yes it is working because I ignored the test tone and set the level to the same as the other front speaker but I would like to have the system working. Would a software reload/update be advisable?

Re: AVR280 Test Tone level Error?

I found the same problem and emailed ARCAM and got no response.

Re: AVR280 Test Tone level Error?

anyone know if it's possible to downgrade the firmware? or would that possibly brick the device?

Re: AVR280 Test Tone level Error?

I sent my 280 back to Arcam through my dealer, it is apparently a known fault. When I got the amp back I could not get the LH analogue stereo channel so it went back again to be repaired. Unfortunately or fortunately my dealer loaned me a new Pioneer LX52 receiver to cover the extended period without an amp. I ended up buying the thing, it is superb in comparison with the 280 when it comes to cinema sound and the stereo is as good. Bought a Pioneer bluray and to finish off I have just taken delivery of a 5090 plasma.
