I have used the official MSN messenger for mac on an old hackintosh, but it was rubbish.

Re: Best MSN messenger for Mac

I personally use Adium for accessing MSN and many other IM services on my hackint0sh.

It really depends on who you need to chat with tho? I mean for video and voice i would have thought Skype would have been miles better than MSN, but then only if the people you want to talk to use it also.

Re: Best MSN messenger for Mac

Well I am actually going to be using it on a real Mac, using a hackintosh has made me realise how good os x actually is and has made be buy a Mac :D
Adium looks great from the screenshots.
For most video calls I will use Skype but some people don't have it and will use MSN so it's just nice to have it.

I've done the same, my 13" Unibody comes tomorrow and i cant wait to get my hands on the little bugger.

I don't know if Adium supports Voice/Video but for just plain IM'ing its more than good enough.

Not sure about the nicest looking part, but have a go at Yahoo 2.5.3 - oldish, runs as PowerPC-type (under Rosetta if your Mac is an Intel).

IMO, nothing beats Skype so far - save for that processing power hunger when voice is active as well. In fact, I'll recommend Skype as a new feature called Screen sharing is being beta tested.

Re: Best MSN messenger for Mac

wasn't there meant to be a new official mac messenger released in the spring this year with full webcam support ect? Guess that's still some time off.

I'd like all my friends to use Skype, but because i'm the only one not on MSN, it's down to me to get it sorted

Yeah i heard a while back that Microsoft was working on the webcam feature support for MSN for Mac. I have been waiting for that one for a long time. The majority of my family abroad use MSN but they also use Windows PCs so they can use the webcam. Unfortunately i cant because i am using Mac.

Skype is great but a bit fiddly to use especially when you are talking about people who dont know much about computers .
