5.1 sound with Handbrake

I have copied a few of my movies to enable me to watch them on Apple TV.
I have went to the audio settings and I have set them at 5.1, however there is a section called mixdown with the following options

Mono
stereo
dolby surround
Pro logic II
6 Channel discrete

do I have to select one of these to get 5.1 sound?

Any help would be appreciated before I copy anymore in preparation for moving my i tunes folder.

I have now up dated the presets to se if that helps.

Re: 5.1 sound with Handbrake

Hi,

what you will need to do it is have the first audio track set to:

AAC > Dolby Pro Logic 2 > Auto > 160 kbps

then in the 2nd audio track under "Audio Codec" select the AC3 and that's it.

Are you using version 0.93? there is a good AppleTV preset in there which very well. I use a slightly different config with 59% Constant Quality and it looks great, with pretty good files sizes. I only wish I hadn’t done 400 of my DVD's with Avg Bitrate of 2500 when I first got in to this lol, I'm half way thru re-doing them all now with 59%

have fun

Right now I am copying Sideways

audio choices are

Track 1
SOURCE - English (AC3) (5.1 CH)
AUDIO CODEC - AAC (FAAC) or (AC3 Passthru)
MIXDOWN - As discussed in first post
SAMPLERATE - Set at Auto
BITRATE - Set at 128

what is the best setting and do I have to enter something for track 2?, is that correct?

In Video what is the best bitrate to set?

Re: 5.1 sound with Handbrake

I just use 'universal' which I think keeps the 5.1 as a second audio track. If you aren't happy with the quality (I am), then bump it up a little higher.

Many people on handbrake and other forums who have carefully created, manually tweaked profiles have switched to 'universal' since 0.93

The only thing they tend to tweak is adding 'decomb' if its an animated feature

Re: 5.1 sound with Handbrake

I would put the first track as AAC and the second track as AC3.
Some people have problems if they are in the other order IE AC3 first then AAC.
