Help with my macbook air

HI guys, i have just bought a macbook air, and with i i also bought the micr dvi to dvi and micro dvi to vga. I would ike to hook the macbook up to my television, however the component cable on my tv is taken up by y ps3 and i use the av cable for my iphone to tv connection. I have scart plugs on my tv would that be the best way to connect the macbook up, and also would the scart connection transfer both video and sound. Any help much appreciated. Thanks guys.

Apple Micro-DVI to Video Adapter - Apple Store (U.K.)

micro DVI to video will give you svideo output which should be supported on one of your SCARTs.

Then you need a 3.5mm to twin phono lead for the audio (couple of quid from maplins) and a SCART plug with svideo+twin RCA sockets on it (also a couple of quid from maplin)

Do you not have a HDMI socket or VGA or anything like that? Svideo will be ok for watching videos but not great for using it as a computer.

S-Video will give you a very bad picture, connect it via VGA or DVI if possible, if not i wouldnt bother.

i already have a micro dvi to dvi connector, so could i use a dvi to scart to connect the macbok to the tv, and also do you have any idea how the picture quality would be?

or would it be possible to connect a the computer as followis:

micro dvi TO dvi
and then
dvi TO scart

WOuld that transfer both video and sound, and also what would the quality be like?

As Digitalize said earlier, scart wouldn't give a pretty picture and i wouldn't bother unless you really needed it. DVI doesn't carry sound so you would need to connect the sound up via the headphone port on the Macbook. Connect it via HDMI, VGA or DVI if possible.

what about:

micro dvi to vga and then vga to scart, or would the picure still not be great?

the video adapter I linked to is the only way to hook up to SCART. all the others are HD sources and you'll need the matching connector.

DVI will need either DVI or HDMI (via a converter)
VGA will need a VGA input

What telly do you have? if it has component does that take HD? Wonder if there is a way to get HD over component if its compatible and you could use a switcher? - no HDMI or VGA inputs at all?

I am really confused at the moment on what to do, are you saying that it is not possible to use a vga to scart like this one:

bearing in mind my air came with a micro dvi to vga connection.

no, that won't work. Its designed to work the other way around so you can plug SCART stuff (eg a sky box or freeview box) into a projector that'll take RGB but doesn't have a SCART socket.

reading the user manual for that TV, you only have component inputs that would accept a HD signal. I don't think you're going to have any luck getting the two working together.
You'd need a new monitor which has VGA or DVI built in (or HDMI but then you'd need a DVI-HDMI converter)

personally I doubt it. But try and read up more on that tv to see if anyone has tried it.
