Problem with movie files on ipod - Help please

Hi All,

Trying to use mac the ripper and then handbrake to convert dvd's to play on my classic 30gb ipod but having no luck and am bamboozled

It doesn't matter what setting I use in handbrake to create the M4v file (ipod high or low res) I get the message that the file cannot play on ipod when trying to sync despite the file playing perfectly within itunes itself? Any ideas

If I convert files recorded from eyetv they play no problem at all?

Please help guys as I wanted to copy a few of my comedy dvd's for a forthcoming skiing holiday!

I found handbrake a doddle to use once I got the knack;

Insert DVD
Select it in handbrake
Then expand the presets on the right hand side (you may have to select show presets).
Select Ipod and set it off.

Did you convert the eye tv recordings in handbrake? The only thing i could suggest is try to update the presets in handbrake.

Jiff - don't you have to rip the dvd first using mac the ripper?

Sammy - eyetv does it all including the recording and the conversion - you don't have to use handbrake

You can rip with Handbrake - but with version 0.93 you have to have the latest version of VLC installed in your root Apps directory. In the older versions of Handbrake it did the rip for you. Most people stick with MTR though ..

As was suggested earlier, make sure that you have updated the built-in presets, especially if you have upgraded to 0.93 recently - they all changed. Also, you say that it's a "Classic 30gb" iPod - do you mean the iPod 5G ? If so, you need the iPod 5G flag in Handbrake ticked. I encode all of my Handbrake stuff for my iPod 5G using the legacy, iPod setting and it works fine.

If you are still having problems, let us know exactly which program versions and iPod you have, and we'll see what we can do.
