Safari quitting?

Anyone else finding this? Mainly with this forum I find, esp if I hit back, or next page or a different sub-section. Only started after I did a system software update yesterday. Can't recall what it was, security I think. Will look into it later. Just running Cocktail in case permissions have got messed up.

Re: Safari quitting?

Yup - quitting here too - on bug report it seems the new flash plugin is taking the first 5 or 6 threads so it could be that crashing with an in-line ad ...

Re: Safari quitting?

I had this immediately after the flash upgrade but it seems to have reconciled. Mail OTOH crashed 3 times yesterday while doing nothing.

Re: Safari quitting?

I gave my old dad my mac mini last year and for the past few days my son has been on it probably wwe, halloween or utube sites anyhoo I oversaw the security update the other day BTW yesterday the safari kept resetting especially when I clicked "back" on these forums I thought my son had killed the mini and was going to bash him about the head BUT!!! seeing this thread has saved him a few lumps ( kidding of course) thankyou folks

Is there any way to cure it??? seemed ok today tho'

EDIT ... I also found that there was a black border on the screen until I did a restart!!

Anyone know why the mini should cease chiming on start up?? this happened ages ago???

Re: Safari quitting?

I had this problem as well, but checking this morning there is another security update that affects safari, so hopefully this is the fix for it!

Re: Safari quitting?

Macfixit is reporting that Security Update 2007-009 (#5) (the new one) seems to cause crashes with Safari, so if you have installed that update, have a look at their instructions on how to remove it and see if all is then well with Safari.

Re: Safari quitting?

There is an updated version to the latest security update (Here), and according to this, it fixes the issue with Safari crashing. I installed it last night and so far so good. Safari seems to be OK now with sites that have a lot of advertising.

Try installing the latest version of Flash then repairing permissions to see if that helps.

Re: Safari quitting?

Hey guys I booted up my son's gift of an iMac this morning which has not had these security updates yet and safari quit on these forums on that machine!!!!! is it the forum itself????

Well I bit the bullet and did a software update on the machine one of the updates was the latest security update ( we did not have any of last weeks' updates loaded) seems that if it is a fresh install of just the very latest one that there are no problems at all thus far!!

After doing a little more surfing elsewhere I shall report back if I hit any problems anywhere

Re: Safari quitting?

It was also happening to me until I cleared all the browser cache using Onyx (I also cleared all the others at the same time). So far no crashes on this forum (the worst culprit) and I also noted my iMac boots faster!

Go to http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs2/english/download.html to get your copy.

(I run Leopard.)

Re: Safari quitting?

I recently installed Saft, which gives ad blocking capabilities, worth trying that to see if it cures your problem. Could well be one of the flash based ads causing your crashes.

Re: Safari quitting?

I installed the latest update last week and haven't had much of a problem since I ran Cocktail (which also clears cache etc). The once or twice I have had a 'quit' it has been on this site.

I was having trouble too, every time I hit 'back' - it seems to have sorted itself out now though, with no tickering on my part.

You do know its against forum rules to use ad blocking software when browsing AVF, although this crashing is a complete pain in the.....

Ive reported it to the powers that be so lets hope it gets sorted out asap.

Sorry, I wasn't aware. I'll adjust the filters to allow ads from this site to display, and still see if I can block the annoying ones from other sites.

I'm on a very new macbook that had leopard installed on it - so I can only presume it is a GA version and not a beta or pre-release

Can you tell me which advert causes the problems?
You need to be specific. You can't phone a car mechanic hope he can fix your car when all you can tell him is that your car keeps crashing.

Re: Safari quitting?

From my experience is was whenever you hit the 'back' button on the PC, generally from either one of the sub-forums to main page or from a sub-forum topic to the sub main page. It's happened less and less of late but my activity on the forum has not been so intense of late. It may be that the Safari/Flash updates have either fixed the problem or at least improved the situation. Didn't get the problem with any other site at all.
