MBP hard disk running out... please help

my MBP is running out of its 250GB hard disk space. It's mainly because of photos in aperture and iPhoto. I have been searching about increasing the hard disk but can't come to a conclusion. I've got another desktop (PC) which I don't really use much.
My main purpose for extra hard disk is to transfer and save all my photos (RAW) files the total size of which can increase exponentially.
Now my options are:
1) go for Wired external hard drive but then i'll have to keep moving it with laptop when I need access to my photos.
2) NAS - but not sure how fast it would be to edit photos stored on NAS. Moreover I also read somewhere that aperture doesn't work very well with photos stored on NAS - not sure how much of that's true. Perhaps somebody who's experienced with using aperture on nas can help me.
3) installing a new hard disk in MBP. but then someday it will get filled as well!!
4) anything else which I'm not aware of.

My MacBook filled up and swapped it out for a bigger one

Used carbon copy to copy hard drive
The old hdd could be used to back up photos then

Was it easy to swap? When u say the old HDD could be used to back up photos - does it mean that you used it as external hard drive? How did u connect it to laptop ( I mean by USB, etc)

You can buy external caddies for this purpose and some SSD kits come with one specifically to put your old drive in.

It definitely sounds like a good idea but it won't be long till i fill that as well because i take RAW pictures and one photo is about 20-30mb!

I'm thinking of going towards NAS as it would also work as Time machine back up and I can go for 2-3TB easily depending on RAID or 2 or 4 bay I go for.

My main query is - does it work well with aperture? Anybody experienced with working on aperture with pics stored on NAS?
