WWDC - Updates to the Mac Range - any more rumours?

Looks like the macbook pro, macbook air, the iMac and even the mac pro

will be updated next week.

Looks like just a modest spec hike for the 13" macbook pro, and of course no guarantee that the chinese source is correct.

http://cdn.macrumors.com/article-new...93e652e866.jpg

But the most important news for me is a new mac pro model, with limited supply now instore and 9to5Mac reporting new model numbers. Should see quite a bump for me over my 2008 model.

Any other rumours, suggested announcements people want to speculate on?

Looks like usb 3.0 ports are going to be standard.

Excellent I was looking to buy an ultrabook, however I haven't been able to find one that meets my needs.
So if the new Macbook Air has USB3 and improves resolution on the 11", I might jump at it.

However, that picture looks to be of an old spec. as it mentions an Intel Core 2 Duo and has a terrible resolution 1280x800. I can't see Apple using anything lower than an Core i5 and a res. of 1440x900.

This is what The Verge reported a day ago:

. The latest rumor claims that nearly the entire Mac lineup will be turned over, with the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and iMac lines receiving updates; the report also claims that either the Mac Pro or Mac Mini line will be updated, though it's not yet certain which computer will see updates.

We've heard lately that Sharp's working on new display technology with extremely high resolutions, including a 13.5-inch screen with a 3840 x 2160 resolution, so a MacBook Air with a retina display isn't an impossibility. 9to5Mac also reiterated its earlier rumor regarding a new 15-inch MacBook Pro with a retina display, USB 3.0, and a thinner profile.

As for the iMac, Mac Mini, and Mac Pro, details were less concrete. The iMac may or may not come with a retina-class display, while it's not clear yet which of the Mac Mini and Mac Pro will be updated. Last, but not least, Apple may also be refreshing its line of accessories, including keyboards, mice, trackpads, or Airport wireless products — but again, there's no concrete details yet.
Apple reportedly planning a massive Mac hardware refresh across multiple product lines at WWDC | The Verge

and yep would be a very retrograde step for Apple if they shipped a laptop with those specs from the Chinese spec seeing as Apple dropped C2D with the Early 2011 refresh

Inventory list now leaked.

Of course, no guarantee that they are all going to be released at once, but it appears to be a across the whole range.

Really do hope we get the high resolution MBPs, I'm due to upgrade my minis and my MacBook Air and a full works MBP would make an ideal replacement for both

I only got my Mini Server in February, but knew it wouldn't be long. It's so darn fast that I am not bothered this time around! :-)

Am interested in the part numbers for accessories though. Wonder what could be on the cards...

For me it's a new mac pro. I'm very lucky as I'm currently doing a masters degree, so I get a pretty good discount.

More importantly though for me is what GPUs they are going to support. The signs look promising, you can at least stick in some PC only cards with OS X Lion and they work out of the box if you don't require a boot screen. Trouble is, I need to boot into windows now and again, so need a proper mac card. Just hate spending the money to do so.

So the rumour roundup is:

Mountain Lion update on progress.

New Macs: Macbook Airs, Macbook Pro's, iMacs and Mac Pro's
Thinner macbook pro with retina displays, possibly for the iMac too and anti-reflective glass

iOS 6: Apple's own mapping app, siri for ipad, facebook integration

iCloud improvements to include new web apps

ATV to be opened up for 3rd party add-ons, and maybe further integration to with a TV (Loewe perhaps?)

Football finishes, and then settle down to the keynote.

What I'm interested to see is how every-day stuff like icons and taskbars look on the new 'Retina' display. HiDPI will come into it I'm sure, but will it be customisable? Or if not, will they go with the same size graphics as the previous model? Or... what?

They have an update for Lion with all the Apple apps updated, developers will need to update their own apps or they will be doubled up.

I was pretty set that I would go from 2011 13" MBP to a 2012 11" MBA but after seeing the specs of that new 15.4" I'm all but sold. Just want to see how much the edu discount is but that machine is an absolute monster.

Jealous about the Retina display! But its still only a 15 inch screen. So still happy with my 17 inch MBP.

Hopefully in a year or two they will have the technology to make some great retina displays on 17 inch screens.

That wasn't my question, sorry... look at your current status bar, for instance. It's a certain number of pixels high, which makes it a certain physical height on-screen. Now the resolution has had a massive bump, will it be the same number of pixels high and therefore tiny? Or the same physical size and therefore span more pixels? The latter seems sensible... but what resolution of the previous 15" MBP will it be based on? The optional one, I hope.

It will be the same as the retina display on 'new iPad' is over the iPad 2.

But the 'old iPad' was only one resolution to base this on. The 15" MBP had two. It's not a big deal, just a curiosity. Other than sharpness I want to see what practical advantage this new display has, compared to my current high-res option 15" MBP.

lol! The res is 2880x1800 which is double that of the 15" pro with 1440x900.

That's quadruple, not double. So on-screen graphics will be a quarter of the size?

I'm obviously not asking my question correctly, so I'll just wait until I can get hands-on with one.

What? 1440 x 900 * 4 = 5760 x 3600.

I understand, from the beta with Mountain Lion that I've been running, is that unlike normal approaches where indeed everything will just be smaller there is some clever 'scaling' happening to allow it to be more retina rather than just higher resolution if that makes sense...

This new resolution doubles both the height and width. Inch-by-inch there are four times as many pixels... double in each direction. So what was previous one-pixel is now four.

HiDPI will be that clever scaling, which works on physical sizes rather than resolution scales and draws images accordingly. It's what the basis of that physical image size is that's driving my curiosity

I'm a resolution nut, you see. I want smaller icons and UI elements wherever possible

Me too I remember the days of my old Dell 9100 where I had a nice 1920x1200 screen in a 15.4" package...That was great 10 years ago If possible I'd have it in the full resolution, project plans (Merlin), flow charts (Omnigraffle) and photo work (Aperture) will be great...Although I hope I might have to up the terminal windows a little now I am getting older...

It's great to read it like that as it sinks in a bit more. This is a much bigger update than it seems at first.

Storage is flash only, optical drive is gone (so no, no 'change of direction' on Blu-Ray) and this time around you don't have to upgrade radically to get the better graphics card. Retina display is fascinating.

On the downside... it's a 'Pro' laptop without built-in Ethernet and no 17" model.

Those are the headlines for me.

Agree about ethernet but as a condolence at least they have updated the adapter so it will support gigabit and there are two thunderbolt ports.

Looks like new 13 for me. Would love the new retina but £1800 is too rich for me
