Safari 5.0.1. released, activates browser extensions

Hello all,

Safari 5.0.1. is now available through Software Update, first impressions, pretty nice and a tad more reliable for me

Also new feature, new website extensions feature, more on that here: Apple Safari Update Activates New Browser Extensions (And It's Pretty Sweet)

Totally uninspired by the Extensions - far poorer implementation than Chrome and Firefox.

very true Re the extensions, it's ok but meh and I doubt I'd use it, I'm just glad that this update appears to have reduced the beach ball I kept on getting with the last update, so for that I'm happy

Hardly anything compelling in the gallery though? Other than ad blocking I don't tend to use them.

Oh and I'm back to Safari 'cos Chrome has become unusable

aaaaaarrrrggggh!

is there any plug-in that makes Safari's url bar function like Chrome ie. as a search bar as well?

Or failing that what's the keyboard combo to get me straight to the Google search box?

I don't really know. It started about 3-4 weeks ago when suddenly my mouse started playing up. Bizarrely it wouldn't scroll down over any image or movie. I assumed the mouse was the problem but it wasn't, someone else on here had the same. New drivers etc didn't fix it. Then over a week ago I started to have lots of timeouts when browsing.

I have 19Mb down so it wasn't that, O2 suggested the issue was Chrome so I deleted everything and then reinstalled but amazingly everything including the two extensions and my Bookmarks were restored immediately - so I think the settings were linked to my Gmail a/c and it was quite impressive really.

Anyway the timeout issues occur only with Chrome, Safari was blazingly fast side by side. Its a great shame as I really like Chrome even if it does chew through a load of RAM.

OMG I thought it was just me. Since Safari 5, as a scroll down a page, if my mouse hovers over a YouTube video linked in one of our forums, the scrolling stops unless I move away from the video. I can then continue to scroll.

Its an odd one - must be something to do with Webkit then? Can't recall the other thread we talked about this in. Anyway it works fine for me in Safari 5.0.1?

hmmm. i've not experienced that issue at all so far. my experience of chrome has been much better than safari so i'll be sticking with it. safari, for me, was more resource hungry than chrome!

If it's sticking over Youtube videos, is it a Flash problem? I think there was an update out recently, did you run that?

OK it took 72 hours but now I can't scroll down over graphics in Safari either. This is weird. Definitely not Flash.

Safari? No, I tried it with Chrome and it made no difference and its a newish install of SL and it was happening under Leopard so no idea why but its a huge nuisance.
