Import Gmail address book to Mac

I've been trying to import my Gmail address book to my iMAC (10.6.2) and am having no success. I've gone through explanations online and the problem i'm having is being told to go to Address Book preferences but I can't find an Address Book menu to find Address Preference unless it's just the Mail preferences in which case the things I'm told to click on do not exist in these preferences.

The attachment shows what I am meant to be doing and what I can actually see.

Address Book is a separate application to Mail. From the Dock it's the little icon of a book with an @ sign on it (6th from the left unless you moved it) or Applications>Address Book

Snow Leopard supports syncing over the air with Gmail contacts. Go into accounts and enter account information under sync with google. The use isync to initiate the sync process.

I use gmail as my cloud so both mac and iphone sync back to google and vice versa. meaning any updates done on phone are synced over the air to google and then can be synced back the mac.
