Home Cinema - What Are My Options?

Hi lads, hope this is the right sub-forum, after being a lurker for some time I felt it was my chance to throw my hat in to the ring. Basically I'm having trouble choosing a surround cinema package to compliment my setup at home. I have the following:

40" Samsung LE40A656A TV
Samsung BD-P1500 Blu-Ray player.

Now, I'm no expert on Audio and am in a bit of a muddle here. Do I need to purchase an HDMI Surround Sound system with AV receiver in order to be able to hook it up to my BR player? I hope you're familiar with the BD-P1500. If not, don't worry, I'll appreciate any info you lads can give.

Thanks a lot in advance
Ger

Hi.
Depends what you want audio wise plus budget of course the 1500 has excellent optical out so you don't have to go HDMI if you don't to?
All the best.

Hey Kingfats, thanks for the prompt reply. I have noticed on the back of the 1500, there's the standard red/white audio outputs, 1 HDMI port (connected to the TV) and the Optical output. Basically I just want to watch my BR discs with good surround sound! What are my options for a budget of around £200? I have absolutely no audio equipment already to get me started. The audio on the Sammy is good but it's by no means great and I feel I'm missing out a LOT on the audio that these discs can offer. Any suggestions?

£200 would get you a 5.1 package and then you could connect the player up via optical for your digital surround sound.
Couple of examples here.

That sounds like a good idea King and simple too! I've read all about PCM and DTS etc etc, what is the best that my 1500 can do and will the best possible Audio come through the optical cable?

Thanks a lot for your help

Re: Home Cinema - What Are My Options?

I've been looking at these but it would mean I'd have to purchase an amp which can be quite dear:

Jamo A102HCS5 5.1 Home Cinema Speaker Package 500W: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

Could I just buy this package and have my cinema system completed in one purchase? I know it's probably not as thumping as the Jamo but it would do surely?

Samsung HT-TZ215R 6.1ch Tallboy 800 Watt Home Cinema: Amazon.co.uk: Your Store

Is it possible to hook that Sammy up to my 1500 via optical for optimum audio performance?

Thanks
