Independent Surround Sound System

Hi,
I have a Samsung LE42R8 TV with a Samsung DVD/HDD SH853M.

I am looking for a surround sound system that I can use with both of these but also use together with my cable/Sky. Any recommendations or advice on whether this is even possible?

p.s I dont have a fortune to spend!
