Sony HT-SS1300 & PS3 HDMI Issues

Hi all...hopefully someone might be able to help me with an HDMI connection issue.

I have just purchased a Sony HT-SS1300 Home Theatre System and a Sony PS3-80gb. All to be connected via HDMI to my existing Samsung LE32R87BD LCD TV and Virgin+ box. All so far so good...

I have connected the Virgin+ box via HDMI to the Sony HT-SS1300 which works a treat, sound and pic awesome.

My problems arise when i connect the sony PS3 to the HT-SS1300. The TV just displays an image saying "Mode Not Supported".

If i connect the PS3 directly to the TV via HDMI, all works perfectly. But i cannot get the PS3 to work when connected via the home theatre system. Kinda makes the whole setup pointless if i cant run everythin through the HT system.

Anybody have any ideas?? Any help much appreciated.

Cheers

Re: Sony HT-SS1300 & PS3 HDMI Issues

Well it doesn't seem like a problem with your hdmi cables, as the one from amp to tv works ok, and the one from the ps3 works ok when connected directly to tv.

Have you tried connecting the ps3 to the other hdmi inputs on the amp? In case it's that particular hdmi input.

Try the v box in the input the ps3 is connected to. Try and narrow down where the problem is- tv, amp, or ps3.

Also, you could check / redo your ps3 display and sound settings. Try the soft reset with it connected to the amp - from standby hold down the I/0 button till it gives a few peeps, it'll set itself to lowest resolution. Hopefully you'll get a picture then and can redo your display settings.

Try a factory reset of the amp - hold down power button for 5 secs or so, it'll say "clearing... cleared". Could be a setting on the amp that's been changed.

I've never heard of that error message on ps3, sounds like it might be a message from your tv.

Bit vague but i hope that helps

Re: Sony HT-SS1300 & PS3 HDMI Issues

Hi Colspark!

Thanks for the prompt reply!

I have tried the PS3 HDMI Cable in other ports and still get the same message. I think your right, in that its a message that the TV is pushing out.

Have tried the Virgin+ box on different HDMI ports and that is fine.

Just about to play around with sound settings. Am i right in thinking that if the sound settings are incorrect on the PS3 over HDMI, that it could stop the whole video/audio signal being processed?

Should i setup the PS3 for Bitstream or LCPM?

CHeers for the advice so far!!!

Re: Sony HT-SS1300 & PS3 HDMI Issues

No worries mate.

If your sound settings are incorrect, i think it'd only affect the audio - you should still get a picture.

So i think it's worth trying the soft reset (as above) on the ps3, and / or redo your ps3 display settings, and try factory reset on the amp too.

Seems like the tv isn't happy with what is being sent to it for some reason.

If still no joy it may be your amp is faulty. It should work fine with ps3.

Your ps3 sound settings should be to output linear pcm over hdmi - this is under video settings. This means ps3 decodes the audio and outputs uncompressed - giving you hd audio from blu rays.

Whilst you're there ensure dynamic range control is off - this applies compression to the audio, basically it screws it up, not good. It's on auto by default for some daft reason.

Then go to sound settings when connected to the amp, and select hdmi, then auto. Ps3 will auto select the right stuff - 5.1ch pcm etc.

Obviously you need your video to be working from the ps3 to be able to do that though!

Re: Sony HT-SS1300 & PS3 HDMI Issues

... Seems like a right pig to narrow down though - ps3 is fine direct to tv, so it doesn't appear to be either of those, however amp works fine with your v box! Bit of a puzzler...

Re: Sony HT-SS1300 & PS3 HDMI Issues

Hi Colspark,

Sorry for delay..a weekend away from resolving the HDMI thinking i would come back with a clear mind and fresh ideas..

..and still no joy..Tried clearing all the settings on the AMP to factory settings, and double checked the settings on the PS3 and all still seems ok.

Unplugged the Virgin+ box to eliminate that causing any kind of issue, but no joy.

tried swapping the cables..not sure what else to try.

so ps3 is ok - works through hdmi stright to tv
amp is ok - works with virgin+ box through hdmi

but still get "mode not supported" message when ps3 is connected to tv through the amp..

at a loss as to what else to try.

Re: Sony HT-SS1300 & PS3 HDMI Issues

Hi Rotten Fox

Thanks for the info..but still no joy..

same message "mode not supported"

i think im going to have to bite the bullet and contact Sony technical support......bugger...

i can only assume that the box i have either does not fully support the ps3 as standard or has a fault which is stopping it from supporting the ps3...

will post back if i have any joy with Sony!
