DAV-DZ260 for 32v4000, Xbox 360, Sky + and Wii

hi people,

i am once again seeking help with another purchase (i bought a kld32v4000 after looking on here and the comments that others have made about it and having regretted my purchase).

i have currently got a cheap acoustic solutions htib that i need to upgrade now that i have my own place and can make more noise.

i have been on the internet for since 5am looking for the right 5.1. i would really like the Sony HT-SF/SS1200/1300 but i cant find the 1200 anywhere and the 1300 is too expensive for my budget <£150, (i would pay the extra for the 1200 if i could find one for £205)

i need to connect the above gizmos to the system and i think that i am going to settle for the Sony DAV-DZ260 (which i found through the offers on this site).

so has anyone run an hd-dvd through this system via the xbox 360? is the sound quality good on it via hd-dvd, sky and wii?

please help

regards

andrew

The DZ260 only has one optical input - and both the Sky+ box and the 360 use this connection for 5.1 sound. To avoid having to switch over the cables manually each time you'll have to buy an optical switch. If you already have a surround system you may know this already - but not everything is available in 5.1 from your Sky+ box. I think it's limited to certain movies on Sky's own channels.

There isn't a direct input on this unit for the Wii's analogue stereo phono connectors - but it should play OK by passing the audio through the TV. This is achieved by connecting a scart lead between the TV and the DZ260.

I can't comment on how well the system sounds, because I haven't heard on in action. I believe you just get standard Dolby Digital or dts sound from the xbox's HD-DVD drive so even though the disk may have a DD+ encoded soundtrack it would sound the same as a normal DVDs soundtrack. I'm not 100% sure on this though.

thanks for that. i was in an impulse buy mode yesterday and after thinking about it, i am going to stick it out and buy the STR-DG820 first, then sub and then speakers.

so i will be back on here looking for adivce for reasonable speakers and sub in the near future.
