Old System - Help/advice needed!

Hi,

Firstly, i am new to this so apologies is my questions seem basic and this thread isn't in the correct area.

I have an old 28" Panasonic CRT Quintrix TV which has dolby pro logic built in and has surround and centre speakers with wires that clamp straight into the tv.

I want to get dolby pro logic 2 for better music sound and a dvd player with USB for mp3 files. I have seen some dvd players that say they have Dolby digital decoder in already so i'm wondering if it is possible to buy a dvd player which will allow me to get DPL2 through my existing speakers.

Help on how this could be done would be appreciated - if it's possible.

I'm also looking for a HDD recorder and wondered, if it is possible, if there are are one box systems (HDD+ freeview + surround decoders) out there which will let me do what i'm after.

Thanks,
Rob

Looking at it it wouldnt work as the TV outputs DPL so the DVD would process the Dolby Digital 5.1 but then the TV would process it again to DPL which is just 4.0, Front L and R, Centre and Mono Rears

Re: Old System - Help/advice needed!

If i purchased a home cinema system with 5.1 surround and DP logic 2 etc when i play music via USB or cd from the home cinema the sound will surely go through the home cinema speakers (not exisiting ones connected direct to TV) and give me DPlogic 2. Also when i play a dvd i will have full dolby digital etc as is using home cinema decoder and speakers.

When i watch freview i guess it's going through the tv (i have a separate freeview box) but if i have a scart from tv to home cinema will it not use the home cinema for sound and processing as the speakers will be connected to the home cinema.

Seems logical to me but i am no expert. Basically if i have no speakers connected direct into back of tv which has dolby pl 1 built in, then the sound has to go through the home cinema for sound through speakers connected to it, so sound so be process as per home cinema?

Thanks again,
Rob
