Sony HTSS-1300 speaker wire replacement

Evening All,

Recently bought the Sony HTSS-1300 and im wondering how to replace the speaker cables with higher quality cable. I've bought the replacement cable but the Sony 1300 comes with RJ45 style connectors that plug into the amp.

Does anyone know where I could buy some of these?

I'd also be interested to know how others have replaced or extended their speaker cables for this system.

I've have the idea of cutting the original speaker wire 3/4 inchs from the end of the connector then either soldering or using a crimp connector to connect the original wire to the new upgraded wire. my question with this is would this effect the performance of the cable as a whole ??

Thanks in advance

J

Re: Sony HTSS-1300 speaker wire replacement

Basically it's not worth bothering.

First of all the speaker cable is correctly rated for the output of the amp, so a bigger cable won't make any difference.

It's kinda like replacing your lighting cables with 6mm cable instead of 1.5mm and expecting brighter light bulbs.

Secondly if you did replace the cable the weak link would be the bit between the amp connector and the join with the new cable - so it wouldn't make any difference there.

If you're that worried about it, go for separates.

Re: Sony HTSS-1300 speaker wire replacement

thanks for the detailed reply.

so buying the upgraded cable for this system was a waste of time basically as there will always be that weak link of original cable.

would it be ok to attach the new upgraded cable to the original cable for extension purposes?

Yes, that shouldn't be a problem at all - it won't improve the audio quality but it's no problem to extend the cable that way.
