Red face What's the easiest way to play HD-DVD on Philips HTS3357?

First of all, I just realized how I dumb I am. So please be gentle with this noob.

I have a Philips HTS3357 home theatre system hooked up to a 32" Samsung LCD with an HDMI cable and is unlocked/hacked to play all region DVDs. I noticed how the DVD player said "HDMI" at a couple of places - and I assumed this meant it would play HD-DVD as well

Thing is, I ordered a huge ton of brand new HD-DVDs and ofcourse... opened one up and put it in the tray, the moment I put it in, I realized my mistake and stood staring at the player that said "HDMI" and not anything remotely close to "HD-DVD player".

So my question is, if I just buy a HD-DVD player... is there a way I can watch HD-DVD while making full use of the home theatre sound system of the Philips? Is there a way to connect an HD-DVD player to the Philips? Does the Philips have a port like an "HDMI-in"? What is the best solution for me?

Thanks in advance, your help is much appreciated!

has your home theatre got an optic port on it? if so you could get a hd dvd player with an optic aswell and connect them that way. but you would need an extra hdmi port on tv to connect hd dvd to.this would give you surround sound on your hd dvd.

yeah, direct connection from hd-dvd player with hdmi to tv, and optical audio lead from hd-dvd player to surround system would be the ideal connection for 5.1 surround.
if not optical, then digital coax, but anything else, isnt going to be 5.1.(i dont think that philips has hdmi in).

Yes, I'm pretty sure the Philips DVD player doesn't have an HDMI-in - I just checked online.

So HD-DVD player direct to the TV via HDMI cable - fine (the TV has a couple of HDMI ports).

But sound through "optical cable" or "coaxial cable"....? What are these? Can you post pics?

(Sorry I'm in the office for another couple of hours... else I could've checked physically for ports before asking these silly questions)

yeh, hd-dvd player - hdmi - tv, and then hd-dvd player - digital coax - surround.
the philips doesnt have optical audio in, only coax.
a digital coax audio cable looks like this :
kenable - for cables, networking and peripherals

you could mess around with optical-coax convertors, but if your hd-dvd player has coax audio out, theres no point.
if not, you would have to buy an optical lead, an optical - coax convertor, and a coax audio lead, but lets not cross that bridge unless you have to!
