ONKYO HTX22HD vs. LG HT762TZ

Am thinking of getting one of these to hook up to an Optoma HD65 projector..

Any opinions/advice on this decision?

So no one has any opinion on which one should go for?

Re: ONKYO HTX22HD vs. LG HT762TZ

54 views and not a word from anyone. sigh. No one owns either of these then?

Well, I'm leaning towards the LG simply because physically it will fit better into the space though the dvd player that comes with the amp is unecessary but then maybe it will configure better as part of the system rather than hooking up my old external Sharp dvd player.

Re: ONKYO HTX22HD vs. LG HT762TZ

It is entirely likely that no one owns both of these to do a comparison for you.

There is however a 59 page thread on the Onkyo immediately below your thread Onkyo HTX22HD Integrated amp/speaker system

Using the search button only showed up a few threads for the LG AVForums.com - Search Results

Info on the Onkyo is readily available on here.

Re: ONKYO HTX22HD vs. LG HT762TZ

onkyo - 2.1 with notoriously difficult to obtain 5.1 expansion speaker pack.
LG - 5.1 out of the box - dare i say "cheaply built", and probably not the best quality system out there, apart from stylish looks!

Re: ONKYO HTX22HD vs. LG HT762TZ

thanks for the summary.

Yeah I would imagine the LG is somewhat cheaply built when looking at the price and the general LG low cost ethic, but it has had good reviews and the components in a lot of these machines probably aren't all that different are they? You think it is a case of style over substance then? I am leaning towards the LG as it is in my budget and getting the Onkyo would still require me getting an amp and upgrading to 5.1 at some stage if possible.. And as it is my first set up, and the reviews say the LG is good value for money, then I imagine I should be ok with this..? Also, this notorious buzzing problem with the Onkyo and so many people having to return theirs to get fixed, is slightly unsettling.

Re: ONKYO HTX22HD vs. LG HT762TZ

Ok, it's been quite a journey.. I was pretty set on getting the LG for £275, delivered. But now I'm thinking maybe:

Onkyo TXSR506

with

Tannoy SFX 5.1

yay? nay?

So I'm thinking the separates might be the better option in the end.. anyone who might advise against either of these machines speak now or forever hold your peace.

Re: ONKYO HTX22HD vs. LG HT762TZ

hhhmmmmm.. this is where my lack of significant knowledge may be a crucial factor!

Is there no way around this? What is HD audio exactly? There are other audio in/outs that can be used.. under which circumstances would the lack of HD audio affect me? Any suggestible alternatives within budget?

I was put off all-in-ones when told if something goes wrong you cannot replace parts..

Re: ONKYO HTX22HD vs. LG HT762TZ

well, if you have a blu-ray player/ps3/hd-dvd player, or something else like a laptop, etc that can utilize HD audio like DTS-MA,or Dolby Tru-HD through hdmi, or even LPCM(hd audio converted), you wont get it, and will be only able to use the basic DD5.1 or DTS 5.1 soundtracks, and only through optical on that onkyo,as hdmi on that unit carries no audio.

if thats not an issue with you, and you are happy with hdmi for video, and optical for DD5.1/DTS5.1, then its not a problem, and carry on..but if you do want HD audio, and dont want to buy another system for it, in the near future, then think again, is all i'm saying.

Re: ONKYO HTX22HD vs. LG HT762TZ

I thought the HTX22HD did HD audio? Or has I misunderstood what all the blurb says?

Quote:
The high definition era has arrived! So you've got your HD television in place, your Blu-ray/DVD player or games console hooked up and you're getting amazing pictures...but what about the sound? Most integrated television speakers are seriously lacking in punch, and a full surround sound system means placing cumbersome speakers around the room and having a stack of separates that costs a fortune. So what's the solution? How about the superb Onkyo HTX-22HD? Join the HD revolution in style and without breaking the bank!

For an instant, discreet, 2.1 channel sound system, you can't do much better than the HTX22HD. It features a built in amplifier, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus and DTS-HD Master Audio decoders and a subwoofer all in one box and a pair of excellent two-way stereo front speakers. With just two HDMI cables, one from your Blu-ray/DVD player and one to your TV, you'll be ready to enjoy superb high definition sound in minutes. HDMI pass-through supports the highest-resolution, "1080p" video HD audio and deep colours for the best pictures. The HTX 22HD is also the first system to feature the DTS Surround Sensation system, designed to create a immersing surround sound effect using only the 2.1 channel speaker system.

The perfect accompaniment for Blu-Ray/DVD players or games consoles, the Onkyo HTX-22HD offers superb high definition sound from an all-in-one, discreet system.

Re: ONKYO HTX22HD vs. LG HT762TZ

He is refering to the TXSR506..

So looks like the 606 would be ideal, though above budget.

What about Sony STRDG820.. Looks pretty good and cost effective.. but no 6 channel input for analogue 5.1 or the Denon AVR1908S?

Re: ONKYO HTX22HD vs. LG HT762TZ

thats a good amp, the sony, decodes all HD audio, 7.1 possible, but really, analogue 5.1 through the phonos isnt as popular,so many amps dont do it,hdmi does the lot on most new kit.
