Question No sound on Sony DAV DZ260 with Sony KDL32v4000

Hi All,

Can anybody help me with this little Problem?

I have a Sony DAV DZ260 with Sony KDL32v4000 LCD but cant get the Sound working

What I would like to do is that if I watch TV I can change the Function of the DAV DZ260 to TV as well and hear the sound from the system rather than the TV speakers.

The TV and the Sound System are connected via HDMI cable so far. The HDMI icon is showing up on the sound system and is solid, but still no sound.

When going to the LCD and having a look for connected HDMI devices, I find 2 (althought only the sound system is connected with HDMI) - 1 DVD player and one Audio system (Think it was labled like this)

I thought that HDMI transferes sound and video in one cable, or is that wrong?

Do I need to take the digital optical and digital coaxial cable at the back of the sound system? If yes, how would I connect this to the TV, as the TV has no optical output?!?

Thank you vert much for reading and helping me!!

Chris

Re: No sound on Sony DAV DZ260 with Sony KDL32v4000

This should be in the FAQ, it seems to come up so often especially with the DAV260 for some reason.

HDMI is one way only for video/audio signal. The way you have it connected, it is carrying video from the 260 to the TV, not the other way round. You need to make a seperate audio connection from the TV to the 260, to enable sound to be heard from the TV.

Have you any other sources? Sky, Virgin, PS3 etc. If not then just use the optical output of the TV bcak to the 260, this will give you sound. If you have other sources, list them and we will figure out your optimum connection method.

EDIT: Sorry speed read your post and missed the no optical output part. In that case you need to get a Stereo RCA to scart cable/adaptor. Something like this. Youdon't need to use the yrlloe connection and these cables are directional so make sure you get one that is a scart input or one that is switchable.

Just to add...all modern Sony LCD/Plasma models have a pair of audio out RCA Phono sockets...in this particular model looking from the rear...the red/white phono audio out sockets are to the extreme RHS of the scart sockets...so no need to buy a switched scart adaptor or tie up a scart socket just for audio out...just get a stereo RCA Phono to Phono lead instead and that will do the trick.

Yes but the DAV-DZ260 has no RCA phono input, you have to use the scart on the back or a 3.5mm jack socket on the front. Thats why I was suggesting this lead. The scart goes into the amp, not the TV. I was suggesting using the RCA phono output of the TV!

Re: No sound on Sony DAV DZ260 with Sony KDL32v4000

I have the same set up albeit with a sky+ box.
You can watch dvd's through the TV no problem with just the HDMI cable i thought.
I have got an optical from sky+ to amp then a scart from sky+ to TV.
Would be so much better if the sky+ had HDMI

Sounds good all the same.
You happy with yours?

SkyHD has HDMI, but it wouldn't help you in relation to your DAV260, as it has no HDMI inputs, only one output.

Not too mention the fact that even if it did have HDMI inputs, you would still need to connect via optical (or coax) as SkyHD doesn't output 5.1 audio over HDMI.

Good points thank you !

Happy enough with it as it is though TBH only really want decent quality on DVD's which it seems to fair well with!

Re: No sound on Sony DAV DZ260 with Sony KDL32v4000

On a slightly different tack, what is the difference in the main amp/dvd when upgrading to say the DAV-DZ860 as it looks identical just that you get tower speakers instead of compacts for the surround and fronts??

Hi dwhite, i'm new to all of this, i've done what you sat above ( Stereo RCA to scart cable/adaptor) but i only get sound from the 2 front speakers and the woofer, no sound from the rear and centre speakers ??? but if i put my ear close to the rear speakers i can hear a faint hiss.... Realy confused....

Re: No sound on Sony DAV DZ260 with Sony KDL32v4000

Press the DEC mode button until you get Prologic or PL II Movie or PL II music (choose which one you prefer). These modes will process the stereo signal from your tv into a pseudo surround effect.

Re: No sound on Sony DAV DZ260 with Sony KDL32v4000

I have the same TV as the OP and also own a PS3. I am looking for a surround sound system and was going to go for the Sony HT-SF1300, however, these are very difficult to get hold of at present and look like they are going to be discontinued.

If I were to procure the HT-SF1300, however, would I able to hook my tv up to the system to get sound out of it like (like with the OP question)? The spec is here.

I'm guessing this is doubtful because:

Quote:
Audio In / Out (excl. tuner) : 3/0
A / V In / Out (S-Video I / O): Including Front AV - NO / NO (NO / NO)
Monitor Out (S-Video Out) : NO (NO)
Component Video In / Out (Pass through) : NO
Component Video D-terminal I/O (grade) : NO
I would hope I can be proved wrong otherwise.

Alternatively, I was looking at the DAV-DZ660 since I like the tallboy speakers, but I want to know, is this system similar to the OPs and would I be able to hook it up to my TV to benefit from the function? That systems spec is here...

I'm stuck at the mo, because that DZ660 is primarily a DVD system and does not offer connectivity like the 1300 amp and since my PS3 does more than the DVD player included with this, I guess I might have an obselete bit of hardware?

Thanks

yes you would, and its way and above a better system than the 660.
