Question No sound on Sony DAV DZ260 with Sony KDL32v4000

Hi All,

Can anybody help me with this little Problem?

I have a Sony DAV DZ260 with Sony KDL32v4000 LCD but cant get the Sound working

What I would like to do is that if I watch TV I can change the Function of the DAV DZ260 to TV as well and hear the sound from the system rather than the TV speakers.

The TV and the Sound System are connected via HDMI cable so far. The HDMI icon is showing up on the sound system and is solid, but still no sound.

When going to the LCD and having a look for connected HDMI devices, I find 2 (althought only the sound system is connected with HDMI) - 1 DVD player and one Audio system (Think it was labled like this)

I thought that HDMI transferes sound and video in one cable, or is that wrong?

Do I need to take the digital optical and digital coaxial cable at the back of the sound system? If yes, how would I connect this to the TV, as the TV has no optical output?!?

Thank you vert much for reading and helping me!!

Chris

Re: No sound on Sony DAV DZ260 with Sony KDL32v4000

This should be in the FAQ, it seems to come up so often especially with the DAV260 for some reason.

HDMI is one way only for video/audio signal. The way you have it connected, it is carrying video from the 260 to the TV, not the other way round. You need to make a seperate audio connection from the TV to the 260, to enable sound to be heard from the TV.

Have you any other sources? Sky, Virgin, PS3 etc. If not then just use the optical output of the TV bcak to the 260, this will give you sound. If you have other sources, list them and we will figure out your optimum connection method.

EDIT: Sorry speed read your post and missed the no optical output part. In that case you need to get a Stereo RCA to scart cable/adaptor. Something like this. Youdon't need to use the yrlloe connection and these cables are directional so make sure you get one that is a scart input or one that is switchable.

Just to add...all modern Sony LCD/Plasma models have a pair of audio out RCA Phono sockets...in this particular model looking from the rear...the red/white phono audio out sockets are to the extreme RHS of the scart sockets...so no need to buy a switched scart adaptor or tie up a scart socket just for audio out...just get a stereo RCA Phono to Phono lead instead and that will do the trick.

Yes but the DAV-DZ260 has no RCA phono input, you have to use the scart on the back or a 3.5mm jack socket on the front. Thats why I was suggesting this lead. The scart goes into the amp, not the TV. I was suggesting using the RCA phono output of the TV!

Re: No sound on Sony DAV DZ260 with Sony KDL32v4000

I have the same set up albeit with a sky+ box.
You can watch dvd's through the TV no problem with just the HDMI cable i thought.
I have got an optical from sky+ to amp then a scart from sky+ to TV.
Would be so much better if the sky+ had HDMI

Sounds good all the same.
You happy with yours?

SkyHD has HDMI, but it wouldn't help you in relation to your DAV260, as it has no HDMI inputs, only one output.

Not too mention the fact that even if it did have HDMI inputs, you would still need to connect via optical (or coax) as SkyHD doesn't output 5.1 audio over HDMI.

Good points thank you !

Happy enough with it as it is though TBH only really want decent quality on DVD's which it seems to fair well with!

Re: No sound on Sony DAV DZ260 with Sony KDL32v4000

On a slightly different tack, what is the difference in the main amp/dvd when upgrading to say the DAV-DZ860 as it looks identical just that you get tower speakers instead of compacts for the surround and fronts??

Re: No sound on Sony DAV DZ260 with Sony KDL32v4000

Press the DEC mode button until you get Prologic or PL II Movie or PL II music (choose which one you prefer). These modes will process the stereo signal from your tv into a pseudo surround effect.

Re: No sound on Sony DAV DZ260 with Sony KDL32v4000

I have the same TV as the OP and also own a PS3. I am looking for a surround sound system and was going to go for the Sony HT-SF1300, however, these are very difficult to get hold of at present and look like they are going to be discontinued.

If I were to procure the HT-SF1300, however, would I able to hook my tv up to the system to get sound out of it like (like with the OP question)? The spec is here.

I'm guessing this is doubtful because:

Quote:
Audio In / Out (excl. tuner) : 3/0
A / V In / Out (S-Video I / O): Including Front AV - NO / NO (NO / NO)
Monitor Out (S-Video Out) : NO (NO)
Component Video In / Out (Pass through) : NO
Component Video D-terminal I/O (grade) : NO
I would hope I can be proved wrong otherwise.

Alternatively, I was looking at the DAV-DZ660 since I like the tallboy speakers, but I want to know, is this system similar to the OPs and would I be able to hook it up to my TV to benefit from the function? That systems spec is here...

I'm stuck at the mo, because that DZ660 is primarily a DVD system and does not offer connectivity like the 1300 amp and since my PS3 does more than the DVD player included with this, I guess I might have an obselete bit of hardware?

Thanks

Re: No sound on Sony DAV DZ260 with Sony KDL32v4000

Thanks, Rottenfox, I figured it is a better system than the DAV-DZ, but I just wasn't sure. It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have a PS3, but I am a proud owner indeed!

Would you be able to tell me how I would connect the HT-Sf1300 to the TV please?

Sadly, however, I cannot find stock of the HT-SF1300 and it seems only eBay sellers and Pixmania have these, but they are European models and typically £30 more than what they are worth, so I think I am going to hold off for a bit until I find a reputable place and UK model, or wait and see what Sony release next (guessing it's going to be very similar so whatever advise you kindly provide i am sure will still be valid )...

Re: No sound on Sony DAV DZ260 with Sony KDL32v4000

for your connections, hdmi from ps3 - 1300, and hdmi from 1300 - tv.
for tv audio through the surround, connect a set of red/white analogue audio leads..

as for european spec 1300's, there is no performance or spec difference with the european model, and the uk model, the only difference is the plug(uk - 3pin, euro - 2 pin)..all you need is a travel plug adaptor, which you slide the 2 pin plug into, and it just looks like a 3 pin uk plug.
nothing else is different.
i think pixmania might supply one, but you can pick them up in B&Q for around £1.59.
one other thing would be the fuse inside the plug, as im not sure what the fuse is on the uk 1300..find out(someone here will tell you), and stick one in..

Re: No sound on Sony DAV DZ260 with Sony KDL32v4000

Thanks for your help, RottenFox.

It looks like I will hopefully be getting the Sony HT-SF1300 soon, but one final question that I have is: does the system have a 'function' that allows the sound to be outputted from TV to the AMP like on DAV-DZ systems? I only ask because I don't have High Def TV and since the source (the aerial) is going into the TV and not the AMP, how can I set it to give me sound via the speakers?

Could you also tell me the best place to procure the red/white analogue audio leads please?

Appreciate your help, many thanks!

Re: No sound on Sony DAV DZ260 with Sony KDL32v4000

Just connect your tv's audio output to the audio input on the amp - you should have red and white phono output on your tv. Pretty much every amp will have phono inputs.
Phono cables can be bought from any electrical retailer.

you need to connect the source direct to the amp for surround sound, and with hdmi / optical / digital coax. Stereo sources can just go straight to your tv, with the tv's audio output going to the amp with a stereo cable if you want the audio through your amp.

just connect either an optical lead,or analogue phonos from the tv, to the amp,and use it that way.
and dont buy into expensive phonos, try tesco, or asda, they have some leads for sale, and who knows, you might even have a set lying around..

Indeed - i have loads of them! I think most people will have phono cables in a drawer or box somewhere. I don't know where they come from, i swear they must multiply or something...

Re: No sound on Sony DAV DZ260 with Sony KDL32v4000

Quick question, if I were to get myself (one of these sony vgx tp3e (VAIO : VGX-TP3E/B : United Kingdom) ), will I able to output HDMI sound and video from the PC to a Sony HT-SF1300, or (I’m guessing) must I use the soundcard and connect via optical?
