Is it possible to connect the wii to this system for both image and sound if so what is the best way.
What are the best settings for this system in concern to sky+ and my ps3 so i am getting the best from them.
Also in my opinion the sub doesnt seem as bassy as it should even wen it is fully turned up .Is there something im doing wrong.
And finally is it possible to change channels using the remote. just now all i can do is get the sound but not the image using the reciever remote. so wen i use either sky or my ps3 i have to change channel with tele remote then select the sound using the reciever remote.
Any advice assistance would be much apprecieted

Hi kevicles - I notice you have a Samsung Series 6 tele - I have one too. If you dont mind, could you test using the optical out from the TV and put it into the optical in on the reciever.
Sadly my cable company doesnt provide a unit with opical out, so I have it hooked up to the TV and was hoping I could then send the audio to the reciever (TV optical out). But I cannot get it to work!! Would be very greatful if you could test it out with your setup!
Thanks

Re: Sony HT-DDWG800 Home Theatre Sys REVIEW
Hey guys,
Just set this system up, have sky he connected and working away but I'm having a problem with my ps3.
I have it connected via hdmi and when I'm playing amovie everything works great, but as soon as I go to the ps3 menu it stops displaying picture and my tv just searches for a signal.
Anyone else having this problem or know how to fix it?

Re: Sony HT-DDWG800 Home Theatre Sys REVIEW
hey really loving this bit of kit but i have questions:
sky + connected via optical (shows OPT on the amp) and sky+ set to DOLBY D on settings, what should i put amp on? A.F.D AUTO (which shows L R SW) or use the Dolby Pro Logic settings which show all speakers in use. im not sure what sky transimts in dolby digital or dolby stereo, ie does the sound need decoding via the amp?
when watching/playing PS3 i have it set to PCM, is there any other settings i need to use to ensure the PS3 is using all its capability?
it shows 43 hz when selecting inputs i assume this is ok frequency? what does it mean?
i`m planing on getting the Harmony 525 for christmas, has anyone used this with the amp before and are there any problems?
i`m sure there will be more, many thanks for any help!!
excuse my stupidity
Ben

the only material thats broadcast in 5.1 on sky is some movies and sport, not everything is 5.1.
if you are getting audio with PCM with the ps3,and you have the sony set to AUTO,your good to go.
and yes,the 48khz frequency is correct.
as for the harmony,if all the codes arent available for your chosen receiver, you can always manually set it up for the 800, with the remotes learning function.

first step is, i would do the hdmi video test again, and let it decide what it can display.
then if it still does it,i would guess a handshake issue with your tv/ps3.

Ps3 works fine when connected straight to the tv, I have a Samsung 46" 656. But when I pass it through the amp I can only pick up movies. I can only assume that the ps3 is sending a different output when not playing movies and the amp is not picking it up.
Very annoying

interesting problem. did a bit of reading up and some people say to try upgrading the television firmware?
is your Samsung 46" 656 the LE46A656?
Here is the link to the product support/firmware download page for UK
LE46A656 Download Center SAMSUNG
The firmware model listed at the moment is LCD TV 6, 7 series of SD models Main Firmware (ver.T-AMBPEUMD-1020.1). check ur television to see if this is updated version or the same as yours?
as always updating firmware always bears a risk , so maybe do a bit more reading up or make some calls to Samsung for advice before trying out is all i can say - i don't want to be responsible for bricking your television i personally have never tried upgrading firmware on televisions before but reading the PDF instructions it seems quite a simple procedure.

Hi there i have just tried connecting my tv to reciever via optical and all is working well just select tv on remote and sound was there.
I am also wondering which settings i should set on my ps3 with regards to audio output so many boxes to tick and just wanted to check with a knowleadgable person as to which ones are correct.
Another question with which someone knows an answer. when playing music through my ps3 which is connected to reciever through hdmi all the speakers are lit on the unit but when i listen it is only the fronts and sub that the sound is coming out is this normal.
Many thanks

Re: Sony HT-DDWG800 Home Theatre Sys REVIEW
Thanks very much for testing kevicles - it's either my receiver has a fault or the optical cable... Shall try with another optical cable and see how it goes.

go back into the ps3 audio settings, and tick DD,and DTS 5.1.
also, for full use of the rears with music, it might be an idea to allow bitstream for those formats.

What is this system like with music?
I was thinking about getting one, would running without the rear speakers cause much of a problem?
Cheers

no,it wouldnt cause any problems, apart from defeating the purpose of a 5.1 system.
you might be better off looking for a 2.1 system if you plan on running without rears.

Bang for buck though this looks great, most 2.1 systems except the onkyo unit dont have this type of functionality.
I may use the 5.1 in the future this future proofs me. I have seen the onkyo unit in the flesh I dont like it

Re: Sony HT-DDWG800 Home Theatre Sys REVIEW
Quick question guys - thinking of getting this very soon. Can anyone tell me the height from the bottom up, rear speaker screw hole for mounting to stand. I don't really want to get rid of the stands I only bought 5 months ago. Cheers in advance

Re: Sony HT-DDWG800 Home Theatre Sys REVIEW
Will the sound be "better" using optical cable instead of hdmi to transport sound?
