Sony HT-DDWG700 and HT-DDWG800

For anyone considering buying the popular DDW890 it may be worth waiting a few weeks for these two new models from Sony. See following links:

Sony DDWG700: http://www.sony.co.uk/view/ShowProdu...a+Surround+Kit

Sony DDWG800: http://www.sony.co.uk/view/ShowProdu...a+Surround+Kit

Pixmania have both on their site with prices of £230 for 700 and £310 for the 800 model.

It seems as if the DG700 has no component input which i feel will rule it out for many. The DG800 adds an extra hdmi input to the DDW890 and can play Multi Channel Linear PCM sound through HDMI (not 7.1).

Not really sure whether the DG800 is worth the £100 premium over the DDW890.

The price of the DDWG800 is now £243 + p&p. Only £33 more than the DDW890 which has not dropped in price at all

No, there are others if you use Google checkout like TopBrandz and B4UDirect but they are more expensive.

Ordered my DDWG800 after the price dropped on 19 June - been watching this model for a while now and so happy that the price dropped to nullify the OP's comment of "whether the DDWG800 is worth the £100 premium over the DDW890."

With Pixmania code you can get another £5 off for every £200 you spend
Pix080601
MAILUK5 (valid till 22/6/2008)

My item has been dispatched and is in my area depot now, wonder if Parcelforce will deliver in time before they close today and then I can post a review

Anyone else getting it?

Re: Sony HT-DDWG700 and HT-DDWG800

Still mulling over which one to get .... the DDW890 or the DDWG800. Price Difference is minimal and although the DDWG800 is more future proof, it does lose the centre rear speaker. Not having a surround system before, I don't know how much impact this will have.

Godfarter... it would be great if you could post some pics when you receive yours. Look forward to your review.

Hi when you say can play multi channel linear PCM sound through HDMI does that mean it can play HD-audio. meaning say if you have a PS3 for example that can decode Dolby True HD and DTS Master Audio so would that mean the PS3 would decode it and then when playing through the AMP of the DG800 this would output HD audio?

Re: Sony HT-DDWG700 and HT-DDWG800

No,it cant,it cant output dolby tru-hd,or DTS master audio, and it cant decode them, the decoding has to be done on the,say,ps3 end/blu-ray/hd-dvd player end,so the ps3 will output the decoded formats,as LPCM,through hdmi, and the sony will output that through its speakers.

yes, so in other words if you have the DDWG800 and a PS3 you should be able to get HD sound?

Re: Sony HT-DDWG700 and HT-DDWG800

I think the HT-DDW890 is being discontinued. That's a pity really since I was really looking forward to getting some sweet 6.1ing. Ah, well.
