speaker connections

I am thinking of upgrading my system with a new LCD tv; the Panasonic Viera TX-37LZD70. However, I need to update my surround sound too and I could do with some advice. I currently have a Sony DAV-s550 all in one. Since the satellite speaker cables are all nicely hidden in the walls etc, I don't really want to rip them out and redecorate. However, they use a special sony plug into the back of the DAV-s550 amplifier. If I upgrade the amplifier, could I simply change the plugs on the ends from the sony ones; then plug straight in to the new amp?? If so, any recommendations on what plugs to use??

The 'sub' is a passive type so I plan on buying a new 'active' one. Again, any recommendations. Needs to be cheap by most of your standards...ie £150 ish!!

I would also like recommendations on the amplifier too (maybe £200 ish)

Many thanks
