PS3 Home Cinema - £150

I hope this is the right section, so I apologize if this isn't.

My situation is that I currently have:

Samsung 32R88 TV
Playstation 3
Xbox 360

I'd like to connect the current system to a 5.1 all in one speaker system, but I amn't sure about whats available - no idea about this market - and what to do about finding which connection is the best suited. I know the PS3 has an optical out, but is that the same thing as an SPDIF?

I'm assuming a rig of 150 pounds isn't going to get me one that can do trueHD or anything too fancy, but as long as its got nice sound and is affordable I'd be interested.

Thanks,

Chavs

Re: PS3 Home Cinema - £150

I recently went through the same dilema as you. I have a PS3, Sky HD and Nintendo Wii in my bedroom. I am about to buy the Samsung LE40A656 to watch it all on. Naturally being a bedroom I didnt want to spend thousands on an overly loud for the room system. I have plumped fir the Sony HT-SS1100. Its a recently released home cinema system. It appealed to me because it didnt have a dvd player built into the amp. It is also 5.1 surround sound and has 2 HDMI inputs and one HDMI output. Sound output is a total of 1000W and sounds good enough to be in a bedroom.

ps it only costs £250

Re: PS3 Home Cinema - £150

i have logitech z5450 which is amp plus 5.1 speakers. the rear speakers are wireless (though they need to be powered to mains). it can take 2 optical, 1 coaxial, 5.1 analog / 3 x Stereo inputs. I have used it with xbox and sky+ without issues. there is a similar pioneer speaker system for xbox

Logitech Z5500 Digital PC Multimedia Home Theatre Speaker System - 505 Watt (Total)

I've noticed these speakers from amazon looking quite peachy. Is there any reason not to get these - from a more expert choice? I like the design and looks to be everything I'd want in about 200 odd.

The 1100 is an out going model (OLD) with not many available now, replaced by the HT-SS/SF1200 briefly were purchased separately followed by the soon to be released 1300. Look to pay £180ish now for the SS1100. The new SS1300 costs £280.
