Can't get sound from TV through home cinema
I have a 40" Samsung HD TV, Xbox360 and bought a 5:1 DVD home cinema system today.
The 360 is connected to the TV via HDMI cable and works fine.
The cinema system works fine when you insert CD's into the player but can't seem to get any audio from the TV/XBOX. I am connecting to the TV from the system by another HDMI cable.
Driving me mad spent 3 hours doing this!
Cheers, Olly

Hello Olly,
Think you should have posted this in the all in ones section, however ...
You say you have a HDMI cable going from the XBOX to the TV, which is fine, this should make the sound come out of the TV ...
But l dont understand what you mean by ...

It sounds like what your saying is that you've connected another HDMI lead into the back of the TV and into the Cinema system and expecting to get sound.
If this is the case, the HDMI connections on your TV are inputs, you cant output sound from them. There is normally either a pair of red and white phono style outputs or sometimes an optical out.
What DVD cinema system do you have, this may make it easier to understand what connections you have available to you

Dont hold me to it as i dont own a HDMI amp but i would assume you have to feed back to the amp with either Optical or coaxial rather than use a HDMI cable

Yes.. I feel stupid now, I didn't know that it was only 1 way!
I have the 'Samsung HT-Z310'.
With the system I got a single cable with yellow ends. (Sorry I am useless with this stuff, hence why I'm here!)
I have an old scart lead which I have tried but still no luck.
Thankyou for the feedback so far.
Olly

Re: Can't get sound from TV through home cinema
The yellow lead I presume is for video - Im guessing its a single phono style lead
I cant find the manual for your system, but Im guessing at that price, it will have red and white aux inputs for audio from a secondary device, such as your Xbox /TV etc
This is all hyperthetical as I dont have all the info but my guess is that you will need to do the following
Connect your XBOX to your TV Via HDMI input 1
Connect your DVD/Home Cinema to your TV via HDMI input 2
Look on the back of your TV for the Red and white audio outputs (be sure you get the outputs because its likely you'll see red and white inputs too). Connect a pair of Red and white phone leads from the TV to the DVD Home cinema's red and white inputs.
You will probably have to select AUX on the DVD Home cinema system, and this should hopefull provide you with sound ... he says optimistically

I believe this is a new model, replaces HT-X30R, and has similar connections - so I think you have the option of optical or phono leads.

Re: Can't get sound from TV through home cinema
It worked!
I used the phonos from an old scart cable. Aux2.
Thanks for the help guys, appreciate it.
Phonos or optical? Any difference in quality?
So far it seems I've wasted £35 on the HDMI cable.......
Wonder if its better to use with my 360 then the normal £13 360 HDMI cable? Hmmm...

Re: Can't get sound from TV through home cinema
phono vs optical, for stereo audio...no difference really.
and £35 for an hdmi cable..cant you return it,as there will be no difference with the £13 to that one.

Re: Can't get sound from TV through home cinema
The unit u have DOES support optical in. This will allow the you to send DOLBY DIGITAL sound from skyHD/sky+ or PS3 or Bluray player using a TOSLINK optical cable. You can get these for under a fiver from ebay (or pay £20 to maplin for the exact same thing!!)... (If u want to connect 2 sources eg. skyHD & ps3 you need an optical switcher as the unit only has 1 optical input)
However, if you are only going to be sending stereo signals to the home cinema system then it shouldnt make a difference whether you use optical or phono.
