Panasonic SC-PT850 / SC-PT860 connections.
Im considering getting one of these as it seems to fit my needs - 5.1 speakers that will match TV, and amplifier.
My question is, I am going to build a HTPC and everything going onto the screen would come from this, but im not sure how you would connect this up ? (Bearing in mind no mobo yet does sound through hdmi, so I would need to use optical cable or something as I would like to have surround sound if available)
Would it go :
HTPC (HDMI) > TV
HTPC (Optical) > SC-PT8?0
or if sound was to go through the hdmi (in future when mobo's support this), would it go :
HTPC > (hdmi) > SC-PT8?0 > (hdmi) > TV
Could anyone clear this up for me, as im not sure what connections are available on the SC-PT8?0 units.
Thanks!!!

Re: Panasonic SC-PT850 / SC-PT860 connections.
On the back of the 850 YOU have an audio in connection.
On the back of the tv you will have an audio out,
Simply connect the av cables to these sockets, anything that goes through your tv will be surround sound.

Re: Panasonic SC-PT850 / SC-PT860 connections.
So, are these rca connections on the PT8?0, not hdmi ?
and the cables would go
htpc > (hdmi) > TV > (rca/hdmi) > PCT8?0
Thanks for your help by the way.

Re: Panasonic SC-PT850 / SC-PT860 connections.
You would connect as you first said
Would it go :
HTPC (HDMI) > TV
HTPC (Optical) > SC-PT8?0

Re: Panasonic SC-PT850 / SC-PT860 connections.
Ahh thanks very much!
Just thinking ahead, but if I get a mobo in the future that supports audio over hdmi then is ther anyway to go though the PT8?0, ie.
HTPC > (hdmi) > PT8?0 > (hdmi) > tv
or does the PT8?0 only accept an audio / optical input ?, and where can I find what audio formats it supports, ie. Dolby Digital, True HD etc...
Sorry for all the questions guys, just want ot weigh up my options.

Re: Panasonic SC-PT850 / SC-PT860 connections.
Well the back of my 850 has
1 hdmi
1 scart
1 aux in
1 optical audio
and three other outputs that i'm not quite sure what they are, but i asume they are for those people that want to use audio and video leads in stead of hdmi or scart.
I think its called progressive scan. ???

Yes, me too, I think the SC-PT850 has been superceeded by the 860, but I read that the 860 is not as good ? (Uses a different sub, and different speaker connections that only allow for the supplied speakers)
