Sony DAV-IS10 to LE40M86BD & SKY+

Hi

I've just purchased a Samsung LE40M86BD TV to replace my dying 12yr old 32 inch CRT TV.

I'm now looking for a good all in one home cinema system, the one I like so far is the Sony DAV-IS10, I can get it for £350, and the speakers are quite small so the wife likes it, also upscales to 1080I, so should be good with my 1080P LE40M86BD.

I also have SKY+, so just considering the best way to connect it all up ?

I was thinking HDMI from DAV-IS10 to TV, will this also carry audio back from the TV to the DAV-IS10 ?

Whats the best way of connecting SKY+ to the TV and DAV-IS10? I've only every used SCART on the old CRT.

I've also been looking at HDMI cables as Sony do not include them, the Sony shop tried to sell me a cable for £69.95 which I though was abit of a joke, as I know the DAV-IS10 is not exactly state of the art for quality, so a cable of that price seems over the top !

I've had a look on PLAY.COM and found what look like good HDMI cables for £9.99 :

http://www.play.com/Electronics/Elec...e/Product.html

Anyone got any thoughts on good cables for this setup, and whether there is a real difference in performance if you pay 7 * the amount for HDMI cables?

Thanks for any help.

A £10 HDMI cable is perfectly acceptable, you dont need to spend more.

To connect up as follows

IS10 >>> HDMI >>> TV
Sky+ >>> Scart (RGB) >>> TV
Sky+ >>> OPTICAL >>> IS10

Hi Ecnirp

Here's the HDMI cable I've just bought. Supports 1080p and is version 1.3

Hi

Thanks for that, I bought the HDMI from play.com with an optical lead for £20.

kentish_lad thanks for the advice on setup, never used the optical for connections before, I got a decent RGB Scart already from my SKY+ to CRT TV, so gonna re-use that as it works in RGB mode.

Re: Sony DAV-IS10 to LE40M86BD & SKY+

Can i resurrect this thread, as i have the same TV & Sky+, and am interested in getting this surround system if all is right here.

In addition to the TV & Sky+ i also have an xbox 360 elite (and a Wii)

To get the right configuration, can i assume i would have the elite connected via HDMI (as i do already) to the TV and the IS10 via HDMI to the 2nd port, and the Sky+ via the optical out?

Would doing this give me the DD5.1 for all the systems including the 360?

I am planning on building an HTPC at some point soon, so would want to ensure i cover all bases before i start ordering stuff.

Any help is appreciated, and sorry for hi-jacking this thread, if i need to start a new one just let me know.

Thanks

Lee

You would need an optical splitter and additional optical cables to get the 360 working too, only cheap and work okon mine,or optcal to coaxial convertor,i havent tried these however,so cannot comment on them, hope this helps>

Thanks for the help.

Am i wrong then when i think that HDMI from the 360 to the TV would provide the DD audio without the need of the optical cable?

The 360 will output DD5.1 via HDMI. But the TV doesn't have a DD encoder in it, so will only play it back in stereo. You need to connect the 360 to a Dolby Digital capable amp to hear it in full DD5.1, not to your telly.

ok that makes sense, but as the TV has an optical out could it not feed from the TV to the amp to get the DD?

i promise no more stupid questions after this one
