Samsung HT-TX35R & HDMI Problems

I have a new Samsung HT-TX35R linked up to a Samsung PS50P6FDX with a QED HDMI cable.
Mostly it's OK but there are a few issues that I have experienced.

When watching a DVD, the video will suddenly cut out and the screen goes blank. I can still hear the audio. I need to cycle through the Source button on the remote to get back to DVD which usually returns the picture. I thought it was a problem with the DVD player until I scanned the forum and noticed a lot of problems with HDMI. Has anyone experienced anything similar with this kit? Is it the DVD player or the HDMI ?

I gave up on trying to use the Anynet feature as I was constantly having lip synch issues. I now use a separate remote for the TV and one for the DVD player.
I haven't bothered pushing the TV sound through the 5:1 speakers either. There were too many niggles with the Sky + box synching it's audio.
Does anyone else think that the Samsung remotes are overly complicated ?

I'd be interested to hear as this stuff wasn't cheap and I'm not exactly blown away by it.

Re: Samsung HT-TX35R & HDMI Problems

Have you gor the DVD player set to upscale (720p or 1080i)? I had a similar problem when I had this upscaling turned on. I was advised (I think by someone on here) that it was better to turn off the up scaling on the DVD and let the TV do it as it has a better upscaler anyway. I did a number of checks and I believe having the DVD at standard outpit and letting the TV upscale produces at least as good a picture as having the DVD upscale. Plus, with the DVD set to SD, the blank screen problem dissapeared.

I have occasional problems with the sky (HD) optical audio feed going out of synch. I have kept a copy of the Myleene Class test card which has a sound synch section. Strangely, whenever the sound goes out of synch, playing the test card for a few seconds seems to sort it out (don't know why).

If I didn't have HD I wouldn't bother with the optical as I don't think there would be any 5.1 transmissions.

I have the toshiba 32wlt66- Will that upscale automatically or do i need to play with it?

Its a bit odd though that they have an upscaling function which doesnt work?

Re: Samsung HT-TX35R & HDMI Problems

As far as I know all HD TVs upscale any SD signal so your TV should do so.

I believe the problem I had was caused by the combination of the two upscalers and a failure for them to communicate properly. As I said I think the picture quality with the DVD set to SD is just as good because the upscaler in my TV is better than the one in the DVD.

I suggest giving it a try. Set the DVD player to SD and see how the picture compares. If the quality is OK then leave it for a while in see if the problem re occurs.

Good luck

Re: Samsung HT-TX35R & HDMI Problems

Search these forums for the TX35 thread and you'll see these problems are quite commonplace. But, what you will also see is that Samsung released a firmware upgrade that seemingly corrected some of the Lip sync issues... Maybe this will also fix the HDMI issue (if I remember, some people fixed this by buying a cheap HDMI cable, it was the more expensive ones causing the problem, but I could be wrong...)
Like I said, ask in the TX35 thread and people will tell you.

Had it set on 1080i, just changed it to 576, and will check it out tomoz, see if it does the trick..... Hope so, love the sound you get out of it, and would hate to have to get another

The SD thing(576) seems to have cracked it, watched a film last night as I said on an earlier post and the blank screen thing happened about 20 times- totally cracking me up, tried other discs n it kept doing the same, but had chance to watch a film today on 576 and was good as gold
