Bose Lifestyle 18/28 or something else?
Hi
I have been looking at the Bose Lifestyle 18 and 28 systems but in all honesty dont know too much about systems like these so my question is Are there better systems available for the money?
I have to say i do like the fact that with the bose system the speakers are so small.
Its to go with my new sony 40 inch lcd tv that has just gone on the wall.
Any Suggestions greatly appreciated.

Anything other than Bose.
vastly overpriced,and sub-par quality,no better than cheap no-branded equipment.
you could do a lot better than them, such as sony, yamaha, panasonic, etc.
plenty of topics on plenty of systems in this forum.
search a little,on all-in-ones and im sure something will more than likely appeal to you.
like this:
Sony DAV-IS10:

No thats not true. The Bose system is a lifestyle product and is in noway substandard or sub-par. There are ofcourse better systems but they may not look as good. Yes they maybe cheaper for a better quality sound but it really is completely dependant on what you are after.
The Bose system is descrete and compact but I would agree its not the finest but it is one of the smartest looking. The alternates are chunkier boxes and larger speakers or even separates which will take alot more room up.

Having said all that the Sony is small (but not sure if it comes in white, if that bothers you).

Dont believe BOSE marketing hype, save your money and go for a more main stream.
You have to remember that these small lifestyle speaker packages which ever brand they are will use the SUB for the main work, the small sats are not capable of outputting any midrange with leaves the Sub doing all the work thus making the overall sound less directional.

it IS vastly overpriced - roughly £1500,for the lifestyle 18 system, and £2000 for the lifestyle 28 system.
i also like the way, they trademark " VIRTUALLY INVISIBLE®",when talking about small speakers.
the sound quality is poor, compared to many systems ive heard, and at about 1/5 of the price, many other systems sound and look far superior.
they lifestyle systems, just look like they have been modelled on the george foreman grill.
you could do a lot better, with your money, and still have hundreds of pounds left,if you bought something else, other than them.

Soundwise the 830 but to me the tallboy speakers look ugly in the flesh.

Re: Bose Lifestyle 18/28 or something else?
It's very fashionable to dislike Bose, but it's unfounded.
For one thing. If you just want to be a consumer and BUY good sound, rather than subscribe to an apprenticeship in the world of the hi-fi geek, then the Bose is a viable option. The Bose has a self-setting facility which will analyse the shape of your room and set the kit up to work very well.
I guess if hi-fi is your life, and you have an extra £500 available over your original budget, you'd rather spend it on getting more sound quality for your money, especially if your priority is to arrange your furniture around your system, rather than the other way around.
Personally the fact that my lounge doesn't look like a hi-fi shop is worth £5000 to me, so £500 more for smaller speakers is a bargain. So overpriced is unfair - it doesn't pretend to be anything else, it's accessible hi-fi for people who aren't into hifi.
