samsung ht-thx25r

Hi,

I have just received the above system for xmas but am a bit bemused by it.Everything about it is great apart from one very important feature - the only imput for sound from external devices is via phono! i.e. no optical input.I have a samsung 40" LCD HD TV, normal sky and a PS3.

Thus I connect the system to the tv via HDMI, the sky to tv via scart and the PS3 to the tv via HDMIT. Then all output to the system via phono so not 5.1 sorround sound only 2.1. So the only way you can get 5.1 is by playing dvds via the system. Am I missing something here whats the point in this day and age of this?

Will it work if I just get a different amp and use this instead of the one with teh system (any ideas) or try and get the amp with the higher ht-thx35r model which includes optical input?

Thanks

Re: samsung ht-thx25r

main reason y i never bought this was lack of optical for the ps3.
my advice is 2 buy a package with an dvd on top, that way u get all outputs u need.
plenty of cheapish all in ones out there atm the yamy av61 is less than £200 add an upscaler dvd for bout £50 and u got yaself a crackin bit of kit will all outputs/inputs needed

Re: samsung ht-thx25r

Thanks - but I'm happy with the speakers and sub, but just want proper 5.1 from not just the dvd i.e. from the ps3 (including the blu ray) and the tv itself.

If I replaced the dvd and amp (all in one) with a better amp / receiver could I not then get proper 5.1 sourround sound and just use the Ps3 as the dvd player - or would this just be pseudo surround sound??

Another option would be to replace the model I have with the amp and dvd player one model up which includes one optical in - would this then give me surround sound i.e. if I connected everthing to Tv and then hdmi to amp and optical to amp or would this just be pseudo?

I'm a bit confused as to what to do?

Cant you return the 25 for an upgrade and pay the differance to either the 30 or 35 models which have an optical input?

Either way you wont get 5.1 from a standard Sky box only 2 channel via phonos, ps3 optical to optical on the 30 / 35 if you exchange it

Re: samsung ht-thx25r

Thanks for the response - understood about the sky box and lack of 5.1 etc.

I cant take it back as it was brought from Argos - and as its been opened could only get an exchange at best and this is the only model they do

Red face Re: samsung ht-thx25r

Hi, I have encoutered the same problem with my setup.

Samsung 40" HD LCD,
PS3,
THX25R Surround Sound System.

With my playstation came a "multi out" cable. I have plugged this in and connected the L-R phono's to the dvd system. In my PS3 sound settings, I have set audio out to the multi cable. Sound now comes through the "aux" mode on the dvd system. However, there is a delay in sound from the image whem attempting to move the menu on the ps3 and watch any films. In my temper I checked online and found this forum. Before I packed the system away to take back to Argos I tried messing with the settings and using the PRII buttons have now enabled "aux" as 5.1 surround.

Although it is a real shame the thx25r doesnt have the "digital in" I am now glad that all speakers are active for PS3 use.

Cheers for reading n good luck with yours

Dan
