Panasonic SC-PT850 + Sky+ (v1) Audio Out Of Sync

Hello guys,

Have a slight problem with the formentioned kit.

Panasonic 42PX70.
Panasonic SC-PT850.
Sky+ v1 Pace box (old style).

Basically, there is a slight sync. issue with the audio and video. I know the audio can be delayed but the audio is already behind the video.

Any ideas on things to try?

Sky+ is connected via an optical cable to the Panasonic kit and the Sky+ to the TV via decent scart (Philex Thor).

I have managed to get all the Viera link stuff pretty much spot on and quite impressed with that

Cheers in advance,

Chris

Re: Panasonic SC-PT850 + Sky+ (v1) Audio Out Of Sync

Are you playing sound from:
A) TV
B) Surround sound
C) Both at the same time?

I noticed with C) i had sync problems, but with B) only it was fine. Need to tinker with it. Not sure on a fix to be honest. Hopefully someone will know.

Sound is via The Panasonic HC Kit.

Unsure why you would use both at once?!?

Re: Panasonic SC-PT850 + Sky+ (v1) Audio Out Of Sync

the delay,is,the feed into the panasonic surround optical audio, possibly due to it processing.
is there any way,you can connect the audio to the panasonic surround, with analogue phonos(red/white).
i would think that way, there would be no sync issues.

Yes I could via the Panels RCA out's however I would obviously lose DD5.1 on the supported channels.

what?
you wont lose any 5.1,as you should have the sky audio connected to the surround, and not the tv.
then you can connect the sky video to the tv.
this way,no sync issues,and you get 5.1
and isnt the tv's optical audio out, only stereo, not 5.1,as most are only stereo out.

and if you want the tv's basic audio to be played into the surround, use the red.white cables, from tv,into surround.

I think you have completely missed some information somewhere along the line as what you have posted makes no real sense.

Currently my setup consists of the TV (Pana. 42PX70), Sky+ and Pana PT850 HC Kit.

The Sky+ is currently connected via optical to the Pana. PT850 and I am experiencing audio/video sync issues.

The above poster recommended removing the optical connection and instead replacing with a pair of RCA Phono cables between the TV's analogue audio outputs and the Pana. PT850 HC Kit.

I believe this will cure the sync. issues as the Panasonic Kit has far less processing to do. However, it will cause loss of DD5.1 from the supported channels.

As the kit was purchase for it's optical input and DD5.1 capabilities I would rather try and find a solution as apposed to a "way around" the problem.

Oh, the 42PX70 doesn't have Optical out on the TV and yes it would only of been in stereo if it did have optical out as I don't know of any TV's that can pass the DD soundtrack from a HDMI input to the optical out.

Thanks.

Re: Panasonic SC-PT850 + Sky+ (v1) Audio Out Of Sync

Did you ever sort your sync issue out ?

I was watching a Sky movies last night and noticed it.

Sky+ Optical --> SC-PT850
Sky+ Scart ---> TH50PX70

I'm wondering if it's because sky movies is 5.1 and other channels aren't ? Which is maybe why I haven't noticed it before?

Any ideas on sound settings on Sky+ or PT850 that will sort it out?

Re: Panasonic SC-PT850 + Sky+ (v1) Audio Out Of Sync

I had/have the issue on all channels.

I found a work around and that is to use the TV's RCA Stereo outs but obviously this doesn't provide DD or as good a quality.

I think the issue is down to the TV.

Re: Panasonic SC-PT850 + Sky+ (v1) Audio Out Of Sync

I have exactly the same issue with my set up namely - Sky HD, Pana TH42PX70, Pana SC-PT550.

Basically any audio output via Optical on the Sky HD to the PT550 lags behind the video on the PX70.

I've played about with all of the delay settings, but as you can only delay things, and as Tesla stated, the sound from the PT550 already lags, this means you cannot sync the audio and video.

This makes the optical input on the SC-PT550 pretty much redundant - either a fault with my particular system or a major design flaw!!.

I'd be interested if any other SC-PT550 / 850 owners are satisfied with the lip sync on their systems when using the optical input from Sky HD or Sky+, or if they know of a way around it.

Dave

Re: Panasonic SC-PT850 + Sky+ (v1) Audio Out Of Sync

I have had sound sync issues with Sky in the past, via SCART.

Sound from TV (no surround in the equation) has been out of Sync with picture over the same SCART.

A reboot of SKY used to fix it.... so I gave it a try last night.... and it worked!

I'm not saying it will cure your problems... bit weirdly it cured mine !

Re: Panasonic SC-PT850 + Sky+ (v1) Audio Out Of Sync

The fault is with the Dolby Pro Logic 2 processing. If I use my 850 with any Sky HD channel I never have sync issues, all these channels use Dolby Digital. If I use the other channels that have PL II then there can be sync problems, bt I have never bothered to try the sync settings!
