Connecting a Virgin media box to Panasonic setup?

My dad is about to buy a Panasonic th42px70cab and a Panasonic SC-PT 850 EB 5.1 Home Theatre System, he also has Virgin Media digital box, now what would be the best way of connecting this all up, as I dont think the virgin digital box has any audio outs? Im also going to be buying this same system before christmas so any comments are appreciated.

Re: Connecting a Virgin media box to Panasonic setup?

He got it today, the Th42px70cab and the SC-PT 850EBK for £1299 from Currys store, Now am I right in thinking that the best way to connect this all up would be, to connect the 850 to the tv via hdmi? then connect the tv the 850 via the audio out on the tv to the audio in on the 850 with rgb cables? now how many audio ins does the 850 have as I was thinking of connecting the virgin digital box via a scart to rgb cable, but if the 850 only has 1 audio in how do I connect them both?

forget the tv's audio out..use the virgin box audio out,and feed that into the 850.
if its not optical, use the red/white phonos for audio.

The virgin box doesnt have any audio outs, just scart to tv and scart to vcr!
and I thought that the tv had to be connected to the 850 or the tv wouldnt play sound through the 850?

Re: Connecting a Virgin media box to Panasonic setup?

if the virgin box,had audio out, then it could be connected to the surround, and you would get audio that way, from cable tv,rather than using it the way you would have to now.
it may introduce some sound sync/lag..where the picture will either be ahead or behind the audio, but im sure the surround system will let you compensate for that.
i cant believe that the virgin box, doesnt have basic red/white analogue audio out though..
connect the surround to the tv,with hdmi, and connect virgin to the tv,with scart.
so you would feed the optical audio out/analogue audio out on the tv,to its corresponding audio in,on the surround.
bear in mind though, that the audio from the tv,will only be stereo, and you will have to pick a pseudo surround effect to make use of the rear speakers. a la stereo, with echo.

Re: Connecting a Virgin media box to Panasonic setup?

Nope difinately no audio outs, even on my new virgin media vbox which is samsung, while my dad has the old black pace box, so whould it not make any difference by connecting the virgin box directly to the 850 via a scart to audio lead?
