Unhappy Help needed setting up home cinema

Hope someone can help. I have a Samsung Plasma (PS50C9HD) PS3, Sky HD and an LG Home Cinema System (HR902TA). My problem is how do I connect all my devices and get sound from each 1. I thought that all I would need to do was connect the PS3 to HDMI 1, Sky HD to HDMI 2 and my DVD Receiver to HDMI 3 then connect the optical cable from my tv to my DVD receiver but I get no sound from anything except the television. I have checked all the menu options on the TV to see if there is anything about directing sound through the optical but don't see anything. If I take the optical cable and connect it from the Sky HD to the DVD receiver, I get sound whenever I watch sky or a dvd but not from my ps3. The sound is also slightly out of synch. Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Help needed setting up home cinema

You can not get optical pass through on a TV.
Lip sync feature on SKY box, look at your anytime programs and see if the HD set up prog is still on there, if it is press record to transfer it to you main recording partition it explains how to set up your SKY HD.
As with nearly every all-in one they do not have enough inputs that is why many people buy AV systems, try using an optical switch to go between the 3 devices, they can be found at the likes of Maplins.

Re: Help needed setting up home cinema

Thanks for your reply !!

Why do I have an Optical out on my tv, what is that used for?

Optical switch sounds like a good plan, so will that enable me to get sound from all my devices through my speakers or not and how does it connect. Do i take an optical lead from my ps3 and sky box and connect them to the switch then take an optical lead from the switch to my dvd receiver. I assume the switch will auto detect which device wants to play sound?

Not quite sure what you mean what you mean about the lip sync feature!

One other thing but don't know if you'll be able to help me here. Since I connected my system, whenever I put all my devices into standby and leave it, when I come back, my tv is on with no display. I have tried disconnecting the DVD HDMI lead and putting the tv in standby since that is the only change to the tv but it still happens.

Thanks for your help!

Re: Help needed setting up home cinema

Optical out from your TV is for sound from the TV, Freeview (although not yet) is capable of surround sound.
The optical switch is as it states, a switch. Yes up to three inputs and one output. http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...ITCH&doy=30m10

Re: Help needed setting up home cinema

Thats a great help, I totally understand that aspect now, thanks. Could you mayb explain the lip synch problem I'm having. Is this normal when connected to a home cinema system. I wasn't sure what you meant.

Thanks again.

Re: Help needed setting up home cinema

Start up your guide in SKYHD and you should see a program in "Anytime", that is the Red button called I think "SKY HD Setup", it is only available till this Friday, to keep it just press the record button.
It explains Lip sync

Re: Help needed setting up home cinema

Gattman can I just ask you how much you paid for your LG HR902TA and where you purchased from? Any thoughts on the system itself would be appreciated aswell - I'm looking to grab myself one of these models and it'd be cool for a little feedback from an owner! Cheers
